Healthy Living/Sports Director, Great Plains Family YMCA

The Healthy Living/Sports Director is responsible for providing leadership, direction, supervision and training for the Great Plains Family YMCA Health and Fitness Department. This position has responsibility for budget development and control, recruitment and training of staff, programming, equipment maintenance, quality checks, enforcing safety standards and other policies and procedures, ensuring high standards of program quality as well as member and participant retention rate.

Essential Functions:

• Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency safety procedures at all times.
• Serve as a role model to all staff, members, and guests by personally demonstrating the YMCA mission and core values at all times.
• Ensure a level of service and engagement that builds relationships and fosters loyalty among those we serve.
• Meet weekly with the Executive Director for planning, review and problem solving.
• Supervise group fitness and personal training staff.
• Develop, market, schedule and ensure high quality fitness classes and program opportunities.
• Teach group fitness classes.
• Maintain and replace all broken or malfunctioning equipment in the healthy living areas of the YMCA.
• Manage the Healthy Living budget.
• Oversee staff certifications and trainings.
• Oversee the Sports Coordinator and aid in creating and managing their budget.
• Ensure all staff have had child abuse prevention training, understand they are a mandatory reporter and know the procedure for reporting.
• Attend all required All Staff Meetings
• Understand the purpose of the Annual Support Campaign, support and communicate it effectively to staff, members and donors.
• Assists in YMCA Fundraising activities and special events.
• Preform other duties as assigned by Executive Director.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in area of health and fitness or equivalent work experience.
• Experience supervising employees.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
• Understand and be committed to the YMCA mission, values, and character development.

License/Certification:

• First Aid, CPR, AED Certification (Preferred)
• Group fitness or personal training certification
