Job Summary

The Green Music Center (GMC) is a division of Sonoma State. The mission of the GMC is to present the most compelling artists of our time to investigate ideas and to provide access to diverse artistic experiences that educate, connect, and inspire Sonoma State University and neighboring North Bay communities.

Reporting to the Green Music Center Executive Director, the Programming Director provides management, and guidance within the Green Music Center (GMC), and supervises student personnel. The incumbent is responsible for the development, execution, and implementation of the overall programming for the GMC within the established artistic vision. This includes performances and residency activities spanning a wide variety of genres, artists, and forms that serve audiences and communities throughout the region. Working closely with the Executive Director, the incumbent oversees the planning and assists with implementation of each performance season including 40-60 performances and 30-50 residency activities and builds programming partnerships with artists, agents, managers, and organizations. Contacts involve interaction with individuals and organizations both inside and outside the university, and will include interaction with artists, audiences, agents, donors, and board members. This position requires the use of independent judgment and discretion while carrying out job responsibilities with a thorough knowledge of principles, concepts, and methods of the Green Music Center and Sonoma State.

Qualifications

This position requires a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in performing arts management with an emphasis on programing, production, engagement, communication, overall management, and/or educational activities. Bachelor's degree in the arts or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Graduate degree and higher education experience highly preferred. Thorough knowledge of the arts, including multiple performance genres and contemporary performance, as well as arts engagement strategies required, as is general knowledge of, and passion for, live performance and education. A commitment to working equitably with partners and colleagues and aligning with the values of Sonoma State is required. Proficiency with computers, software packages, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) required. Proficiency with the adobe design suite a plus.

The incumbent must possess excellent written and oral communication skills including strong editing and proofreading skills. The successful candidate must be a creative thinker with excellent interpersonal and diplomacy skills. Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously, adjusting quickly to changes needed on a daily basis and meeting critical deadlines in a timely manner. The incumbent must have the ability to work effectively and to find creative solutions both independently and as part of a team. The incumbent must value diverse thoughts, opinions, and points of view.

Salary and Benefits

Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $7,500 to $8,334 a month. This position is a member of the Management Personnel Plan and serves at the pleasure of the President.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
