The Engineer I position is the entry level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer I position solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. An Engineer I is expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer I has knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures.

The Engineer II position is the intermediate level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer II position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with general supervision. An Engineer II is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer II effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied.

This position supports modeling activities within Distribution SCADA and Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) applications that enable real-time monitoring, analysis, and control of the electric distribution grid for Distribution Control Center operations. The role requires a foundational understanding of electric distribution systems, along with the ability to develop and maintain scripts and programs (e.g., Python, PowerShell, PERL, C#) that interact with SQL databases, manipulate structured data (including XML), and support or enhance SCADA-based calculations and application functionality.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of well-defined problems in area of expertise, including issues related to SCADA and ADMS modeling, data integration, and application functionality supporting Distribution Control Center operations.
  • Contributes to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; deals with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decision that may affect the work of the team, including prioritization and execution of modeling, scripting, and system support activities across SCADA and ADMS environments.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of moderate scope and complexity, including documentation of modeling logic, scripting solutions, data structures, and system configurations.
  • Conducts engineering and related studies; projects and assignments are clearly defined with focus on development but must be able to complete routine engineering projects with minimal oversight; competent to design, operate and maintain systems with minimum impact on existing systems, including development, testing, and maintenance of scripts and tools that interact with SQL databases, process structured files (e.g., XML), and support SCADA/ADMS model builds and validations.
  • Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; demonstrates proficiency in technical competencies and has ability to interpret technical information and instructions, including understanding of electric distribution network fundamentals, grid devices, and their representation within SCADA and ADMS systems.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.  Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.  Maintains accurate records and files, while collaborating with modeling, operations, ID, and engineering teams to support integrated grid applications and data flows.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally, contributing to the reliability and operational effectiveness of Distribution Control Center Systems through accurate modeling, automation, and continuous improvement efforts.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
