With community residents leading the way, the mission of Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) is to build a strong, sustainable Cypress Hills/East New York, where youth and adults achieve educational and economic success, secure healthy and affordable housing, and develop leadership skills to transform their lives and community.
Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for one (1) full-time Assistant Community School Director at the PS 108 Community School in the Youth and Family Services division.
Principal Duties:
- Assist in the planning and coordination of all Community School Programming.
- Responsible for providing on the ground support to staff, including but not limited to supervising the isolation space, acting as a substitute if staff are absent or late and/or providing on-site crisis intervention when needed.
- Will act as Community School Director in the absence of the Community School Director.
- Supervise holistic, engaging, and quality after-school and summer camp programming, incorporating literacy, arts, STEM, fitness, and service learning.
- Ensure that the afterschool program has cohesion with the school day curriculum, and has a quality homework help period each day.
- Provide weekly individual supervision to group leaders and youth workers in collaboration with the CS Director.
- In consultation with the Community School Director, assist and participate in hiring of staff.
- Assist with planning, organizing, and hosting family engagement, community, or program wide events and trips, including supporting school Town Halls and special family events.
- Develop positive relationships with participants, family, colleagues, supervisors, and school personnel. Oversee ongoing work with all public agencies to meet contractual mandates, and to implement the goals of the program.
- Manage all data collection and submission including daily attendance, enrollment forms, School Food and Nutrition daily statistics and more.
- Address the individual and collective needs of students and parents and solicit their input into programming.
- Will serve as Site Supervisor for the SACC license and will need to complete all necessary steps to qualify and maintain this role.
- Collect and maintain required program records.
- Ensure adherence to health and safety standards and regulations.
- Maintain active communication with school stakeholders.
- Conduct weekly staff meetings.
- Collaborate with organizational leadership and affiliated programs such as AmeriCorps.
- Reach out to every family of every absent student everyday via call, text message, Whatsapp message , email to discuss their absence.
- Respond to all families who have responded on the program cellphone with in 24 business hours.
- Record all family communication in designated spreadsheets and keep attendance team updated on any attendance concerns.
- Serve as a point person for in-school triage of family emergencies. For example, help to manage the immediate needs of families who are having housing issues, are in crisis, or have recently immigrated to the United States.
- Attend the attendance team meetings and work with the team to follow up with Tier 2 and Tier 3 attendance concerns.
