About the role
JOB PURPOSE:
The Sr. Technical Facility Design Engineer is a critical role for building and maintaining Midco’s +200 technical facilities. This position will work closely with the technical facilities and key stakeholders to build out, maintain and operationally improve the facility infrastructure, and helps keep Midco as a leading internet service provider in the Midwest.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
- Creation, design, and management of technical facility white space which includes rack layout, hot/cold containment, network infrastructure, branch circuit distribution, power requirements, cable pathway, and projected build phases.
- Creation, design, and management of technical facility gray space which includes cooling systems, generators, transformers, switchgear, and uninterruptable power supplies, and projected build phases.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver project design criteria and develop Basis of Design and ensure these requirements are met.
- Participate in development of technical facility requirements documentation.
- Research new designs, materials, and construction methods for technical facility building, electrical, and mechanical equipment and related components.
- Create, develop, and maintain technical facility infrastructure site documentation, including floor plans, and rack elevations.
- Review and evaluate RFI, RFP, and RFQ submittals.
- Assist in creating technical facility infrastructure standards.
- Travel to new and existing technical facilities for engineering analyses.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects and meet critical deadlines for project schedules.
- Participate in project coordination meetings, and clearly communicate any necessary or recommended updates to project scheduling.
- Ability to effectively troubleshoot site mechanical and electrical systems remotely.
- Ability to respond remotely to unplanned events without immediate supervision.
- Communicate clearly and regularly with the Technical Facilities Manager regarding any potential or outstanding problems or issues.

- Operate and drive a Company vehicle in accordance with all Midco policies including maintaining a safe driving record.
- Communicate effectively and professionally in all forms of communication with internal and external customers.
- Work closely with the Network Operations Center (NOC) to ensure critical parameters are being monitored by the NOC.
- Adhere to Midco privacy guidelines to ensure each customer’s privacy.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical degree or experience required.
- Minimum of seven years’ experience in technical facilities or commercial building construction field required.
- Knowledge of Data Center or Critical environment electrical and mechanical Infrastructure preferred.
- Experience in Data Center Infrastructure / Building Management Software systems required.
- Experience in development of MOPs/SOPs for carrying out systems operations required.
- Ability to create, read, and comprehend blueprints and building documentation required.
- High level of understanding all aspects of building construction – specializing in electrical construction required.
- Applicable knowledge of NEC, OSHA, NFPA and other safety codes required.
