About the role

 

    Clean Harbors in Lake Forest, MN is seeking a Household Hazard Waste Technician I to support the CleanPack and Treatment and Disposal business. The HHW Technician supports the County’s Household Hazardous Waste Program by safely unloading materials from resident vehicles and properly segregating hazardous waste, electronics, and other accepted items. This role involves hands-on work, attention to safety procedures, and interaction with the public.   Clean Harbors is the leading provider of environmental, energy and industrial services throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Schedule:

  • Mon 11-7PM
  • Wed, Fri 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Saturday: 8AM-2PM 
  • ***OPTIONAL*** Tues/Thur: Optional shift available for additional hours (overtime applies after 40 hours per week) 7AM-3PM

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist residents by unloading household hazardous waste from vehicles (e.g., batteries, paint, chemicals, e-waste, and related materials).
  • Sort and segregate materials into appropriate disposal categories (hazardous waste, electronics, recyclables, etc.).
  • Follow all safety protocols and regulatory guidelines for handling and storing hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Operate equipment such as pallet jacks and forklifts (if certified).
  • Perform general labor duties as needed.
  • Ensure Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and always acting in a safe manner
  • Proper packaging of waste to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance
  • Ensure work area maintained in a neat and orderly manner
  • Participate in spill response on customer’s site as needed
  • Attend all compliance and safety update meetings
  • Inspect drums for container integrity and regulatory compliance
  • Operate forklift in a safe manner
  • Safe loading and unloading of waste hauling vehicles
  • Conduct waste stream sampling and profiling as necessary
  • Follow all local, state (provincial) and federal compliance regulations and rules.
  • Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT, local, state (provincial) and federal requirements
  • Safely observe all corporate operating guidelines and procedures.
  • Observe all company environmental health and safety operating guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Attention to detail, able to take and follow direction, and to perform multiple tasks
  • Ability to interface with customers
  • Perform physical functions per job requirements 
  • Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical, by position
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • General labor experience required.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting.
  • Forklift operation skills preferred (certification a plus).
  • Prior experience in hazardous waste handling or disposal preferred.
  • Strong attention to safety and compliance.
