Pay Range
$22.50 - $33.75Effectively leads the various group fitness classes in safe manner. Provides programming that results in membership engagement and incorporates basic fitness principles. Class instruction may be limited to certain styles (i.e. yoga, Pilates, step, etc.). Class types subject to the needs of the facility and the direction of group fitness supervisor or other management. Classes are assigned to instructors as needed and may be added or changed as directed by management.
Major Responsibilities
Must be able to appropriately operate the stereo and microphone system.
Must be able to communicate with GF coordinator via email correspondence on a regular basis. Other methods of communication may be in person, via text, via scheduling platform – GroupExPro or other system.
Must effectively lead and grow participation in prospective classes, according to the group fitness supervisor or other management.
Must effectively manage movement techniques and safety during prospective classes.
Must comply with certification requirements in teaching class and designing class
Creates an overall “positive” experience in regard to programming and effectiveness of class.
Completes and submits monthly volume and class instruction reports per the direction of the group fitness supervisor or other management
Provides equipment recommendations based on class needs and programming.
Must be able to actively recruit new members for group fitness classes and membership.
Participates regularly in group fitness meetings and feedback sessions.
Must be able to work in GroupExPro for class management OR other system if updated/changed
Must keep certifications up to date and participate in annual continuing education per direction of certifying body and/or group fitness supervisor
Minimum Job Requirements
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Certification / Registration / License: Nationally recognized group fitness certification or equivalent certification with Group Fitness Supervisors approval and appropriate CEC's to keep certification current. Current CPR required, AHA.
Work Experience: 1 year experience based on certification OR on-going mentorship program with group fitness supervisor preferred
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Must be able to demonstrate and lead exercise movements in front of a class.
Must attend/perform/complete mandatory hospital and departmental training.
Works in wellness center/gym environments. May work in extreme heat with hot materials. Must be able to utilize appropriate universal and specific precautions for protection from potential exposure to infectious or communicable diseases.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to use visual near and distance acuity. Must have verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio. Must be able to assist co-workers in transfers and transport supplies, patients/residents, or equipment using good body mechanics. Must have functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with a grip strength of 60-80 pounds, specific to the job class evaluation. Must be able to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel and change from one position to the other rapidly. Must be able to lift 25-60 lbs. and carry 25-50 pounds specific to job class evaluation. Must be able to tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres, and noxious odors. Must be able to work in noisy environments and be self-directed to complete jobs as ordered. Must be able to remain calm under stressful situations. Must be able to assess and respond to multiple situations simultaneously. Must be able to assist co-workers in multiple overlapping tasks simultaneously. Must be able to prioritize job tasks and organize workspace to be efficient and conducive to completing work tasks as assigned in a timely manner.
