Senior Backend Python Engineer

This position is a hybrid role requiring employees to work from our headquarters location in Seattle, WA; or Atlanta, GA every Tuesday and Wednesday, and remote all other days.

As a Senior Software Engineer embedded in the  Applied Machine Learning Team, your job is to define and own the application architecture and backend platform that delivers high-volume, high-scale machine learning based insights to Redfin’s customers. Your domain will include Python applications transforming data for batch and real-time purposes, as well as developing and operating APIs that serve Redfin's models and related business logic. You will work with an experienced group of machine learning engineers and researchers with robust research to production culture. This is a role for a backend expert: you'll do everything from data at rest through to packaging API results for the web or streaming out to other teams at Redfin. 

The Role:

• You will work on Redfin’s machine learning backend platform creating new data pipelines and tooling to help scale our solutions for our brokerage website with 7x the traffic of our next closest brokerage competitor 

• You'll build products and tools that drive some of the company's most critical metrics and impact revenue growth. We are helping create the best possible home buying or selling experience, one feature at a time.

• You will assist with debugging and recovery when incidents arise.

• You will drive team efficiency improvements and share your learnings with other engineers across Redfin.

• You will keep our systems up to date with current best practices and tooling, including monitoring, logging, and deployment tooling.

 

Who You Are:

• You have 5+ years of experience in Python development in a large or complex application, Service Observability, and public cloud deployment experience (AWS, Azure or GCP)

• You have demonstrable experience designing, building, monitoring and operating robust, scalable back-end cloud infrastructure that efficiently processes millions of records per minute.

• Specifically, you have extensive production experience with large high-complexity Python services used by millions of users and own the full lifecycle of Tier 1 API's 

• You have built massively available APIs that power millions of daily hits

• You have built and maintained data and application pipelines

• You are a thought leader able to identify solutions to difficult problems and lead these solutions to implementation

• You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience

• Participate in an on-call rotation, providing timely support (approximately one week every 4-5 weeks).

The compensation information below is provided in compliance with all applicable disclosure requirements.

Base Pay Range: $146,500.00 - 198,000.00. Actual base pay will depend on varying circumstances, including the position, location, individual qualifications, market finances, and other operational business needs. Compensation may also include bonuses and equity.
