Track and Field Head Coach (High School)
Fall 2025
University School of Nashville seeks a Track and Field Head Coach to lead and develop our program for the 2025-26 school year. The goal of the school’s athletics department is to create a positive environment that reflects transformational coaching. The position calls for excellent teamwork with colleagues and incorporates best practices into a growth-oriented teaching style in a K-12 school environment.
The ideal candidate for this position will have extensive experience in coaching and teaching track and field. They should also align with our school’s values and mission for fostering the best in educational practices and striving for excellence while meeting each student’s athletic potential. Our high school season runs from February through May. All practices are at our River Campus facility from 3:45-5:30 for high school. There would be additional expectations to provide opportunities for pre-season development in the winter in preparation for indoor track opportunities and development for the spring season.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement a training program that advances individual and team performance skills to support the achievement of the program’s purpose
- Conform to the highest standards of professional conduct regarding compliance with department and institutional policies and procedures and adherence to the rules of the state athletic association
- Train and supervise assistant coaches toward the end of developing head coaching capabilities and supporting all program objectives
- Design a competitive schedule that maximizes athlete development and performance
- Advance each student-athlete’s level of knowledge with regard to sport conditioning, nutrition, skill development, sport psychology, and competitive competency
- Demonstrate master teaching competencies with regard to a) sport skill instruction, b) motivation, and c) coaching skills during competitive events
- Provide strong leadership in the personal development of student-athletes as demonstrated by high standards of behavior
- Relate well to student-athletes, assistant coaches, game officials, parents, media, alumni, and the public
- Demonstrate a high level of involvement in the personal and academic development of student-athletes within our K-12 school
- Manage a cost-effective and administratively efficient sport program
- Exhibit strong writing and speaking abilities
- Attend all department meetings
- Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all staff, student-athletes, and external constituents through a) a positive and constructive approach to all tasks, b) respect for the competencies of others, and c) appropriate conflict resolution behavior
- Perform other duties as determined by the Director of Athletics
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Master’s Degree preferred
Experience and Competency Requirements:
- Previous playing experience required
- Previous coaching
