North Wind Construction Services provides heavy civil construction services with special expertise in mine reclamation, repository construction and operation, landfill closures, and stream restoration. Operations began in northern Idaho, but have expanded to new regions including Las Vegas, Seattle, and Oak Ridge. The Construction Services team is known for the successful completion of projects in challenging conditions that are often in remote locations throughout the U.S. North Wind Construction Services is a certified 8(a) and small disadvantaged business.

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Construction Carpenter GF will oversee as well as order materials and line out carpenters and laborers to build, erect, install, and repair forms, structures, and other fixtures made from wood and other materials as needed to assist with various types of construction projects as well as perform labor tasks required in the construction and demo of projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs material takeoffs and provides lists to manager to order or GF will order basic materials.
  • Measures, marks, and arranges materials to establish layout based on blueprints or instructions from supervisors and delegates to carpenter Forman, carpenters, and laborers.
  • Cuts and shapes structures, forms, or other fixtures from wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall.
  • Uses various hand and power tools to securely build assigned projects.
  • Joins materials with the most appropriate nail, screw, staple, or adhesive.
  • Ensures the accuracy of work by checking completed projects with tools such as levels, surveying equipment, or framing squares; corrects problems as needed.
  • Install door and hardware.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by project managers and works closely with them to plan project schedules and performance.
  • Construction site cleaning and punch list making and performing.
  • Load/unload/ place various materials using forklift, skidsteer, and other equipment for material moving.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Successful completion of vocational school or technical college or apprenticeship program; OR at least three (3) years of experience via on-the-job training required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to understand directions and read blueprints.
  • Ability to solve mathematical problems quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to properly care for and use tools of the trade.
  • Thorough understanding of carpentry principles and methods.
  • Works well as part of a team.
  • Ability to delegate responsibility and work to others.
  • Ability to build a team and execute at a high level as an example to team members at all times.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Prolonged periods standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to safely work with sharp tools or power equipment.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.
  • Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
  • Must be able to work up to a 12-hour shift when needed.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends when needed.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The work is primarily conducted outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extreme outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is normally mild to moderate. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, machinery, and vehicles. The employee will be expected to work weekdays, weekends, and evening hours for some tasks on a rotating basis.
