In this exciting role as a Principal EHS Specialist at the Medtronic Mounds View campus in Mounds View, MN, you will be responsible for implementation of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs, training, and systems to comply with Federal, State, and local EHS regulations as well as Company policies, strategies, initiatives and goals. Major areas of emphasis include employee health and safety programs including laboratory safety, chemical hygiene, ergonomic injury reduction, chemical management, machine guarding, lock out tag out, electrical safety, industrial hygiene, biosafety, regulated waste management, air emissions, stormwater and wastewater management, as well as emergency response and incident investigation and analysis. You will monitor workplace safety risks and environmental impacts through risk assessments, observation of work processes, equipment, and the work habits of employees with emphasis on research and development operations.
In addition to the R+D laboratory EHS role at the Mounds View campus, you will be responsible for…
• Maintaining and monitoring compliance with local, state and federal radiation safety compliance requirements and best practices
• Assisting National Radiation Safety Officer with document reviews, updates and releases to improve safety and maintain compliance with US requirements and expectations.
• Participate in global radiation safety consortium to drive consistency across Medtronic

More about what you’ll be doing:
Develop, administer, and implement environmental, health, and safety programs, EHS management system, and training in accordance with governmental and corporate requirements in a research and development laboratory environment
Collaborate with other Medtronic EHS teams in the Twin Cities to create efficient and effective systems
Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses, PPE assessments, and waste profiles
Monitor pollution prevention activities, compliance and auditing efforts; participates in internal EHS audits
Evaluate the EHS impacts of new construction projects, R+D processes, and permit changes
Review and analyze regulations issued by regulatory agencies; collaborates with regulatory agencies
Ensure appropriate corrective action is taken where environmental, health, and safety hazards exist
Identify and take corrective action against activities that pose potential threats to workers’ health or safety, which may include recommending organizational measures to protect workers’ safety through revised methods, processes, or materials; inspects workplace environments, equipment, and/or practices to ensure compliance with standards and regulations; and investigates, determines root cause, and develops corrective and preventive action plans for incidents
Provide employee awareness/training on matters of environmental, health, and safety
Monitor, respond and investigate radiation protection matters
