Job Description
We are seeking a Geotechnical Staff Engineer?to join our team in Indianapolis, IN. In this role, you’ll support Geotechnical investigations and engineering for transportation, public and private projects, helping to ensure safe and reliable infrastructure solutions. This is a hands-on role that combines fieldwork, data analysis, engineering design and technical reporting per the industry compliance. You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers while developing your own technical judgment and project experience.
Effectively manage projects, resources, and staff while providing expert technical guidance in geotechnical engineering across diverse projects — in both public and private sectors — and ensure strict adherence to applicable guidelines.
Core Responsibilities
- Plan and support field investigations, including drilling and soil sampling for transportation projects
- Review and interpret laboratory and field test data to inform engineering decisions
- Prepare clear, accurate Geotechnical reports (e.g., foundation investigations, soil summaries, site assessments)
- Perform site visits to evaluate the site conditions, preliminary site reconnaissance, and collect necessary data prior to the field work coordination
- Support troubleshooting of Geotechnical issues during construction and provide practical solutions
- Contribute to project planning through cost estimates and ongoing technical support
- Perform Geotechnical analysis for shallow and deep foundations, earthworks recommendations, slope stability and seepage analyses, lateral earth pressure calculations, and other pertinent analyses in support of a wide range of projects in public and private sectors.
- Develop recommendations for buildings and infrastructure projects, including residential/commercial buildings, bridges, highways, railways, airports, pipelines, and levees/basins.
- Play an active role in professional associations.
You’ll thrive here if you have
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred
- Ability to get Professional Engineering (P.E.) license through initial exam or through comity within 2 years.
- 2+ year of civil engineering experience (Construction Management or Geotechnical Engineering experience preferred)
