The Maintenance worker assists in the upkeep, cleanliness, and safety of all parish buildings and grounds. This position ensures that the church, parish hall, classrooms, offices, and exterior areas are well-maintained, presentable, and ready for parish activities, liturgies, and community events. This is a part-time position from 15 to 25 hours per week, and the ideal candidate would be available weekday mornings or afternoons; occasionally on weekends or during evening hours for parish events.


Ministerial Character:

The Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (The Diocese) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

 

Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both your professional and personal life
Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed


Facilities Maintenance



Perform routine cleaning and sanitizing of common areas, restrooms, offices, and meeting spaces


Set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for parish events, meetings, and liturgies


Monitor and report maintenance needs, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, lighting, and general repairs


Assist with light repairs such as replacing bulbs, minor painting, and tightening fixtures


Maintain inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies; notify supervisor when restocking is needed


Secure buildings after events and ensure facilities are locked and alarmed as appropriate



Grounds & Yard Maintenance



Mow, edge, and trim lawns; maintain flower beds, trees, and shrubs


Sweep walkways, porches, and parking areas; remove debris, litter, and leaves


Water and fertilize plants as needed; maintain irrigation systems if applicable


Assist with seasonal tasks such as power washing, gutter cleaning, and holiday setup


Coordinate with outside vendors for large projects (tree trimming, pest control, etc.)



Safety & Stewardship



Ensure safe storage and handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment


Report safety hazards, maintenance issues, and security concerns immediately


Maintain a professional, respectful, and faith-filled presence while interacting with parish staff and parishioners


QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:



High school diploma or equivalent preferred


Valid Texas driver's license


Previous experience in facilities, janitorial, or landscaping work desired


Ability to lift a minimum of 10 lbs or more, and perform manual labor in varying weather conditions


Basic knowledge of tools, cleaning products, and maintenance procedures


Must be dependable, punctual, and able to work independently



 

Additional Requirements:


Must successfully complete criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review, and drug screening
Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
Must adhere to all diocesan policies and procedures
