About the role
Essential Job Functions:
Responsible for start-up, operation, and shutdown of units.
- Fuel handling operations and fuel unloading.
- Coordination of all activities to respond to electrical generation and transmission requests, and fuel deliveries in a manner that satisfies the conditions of the Purchase Power Agreement.
- Responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate operating reports, plant maintenance records, and developing procedures.
- Responsible for coordinating all activities between maintenance, operations, and internal/external customers.
- Required to perform instrumentation, controls, electrical and mechanical maintenance activities.
- Adhere to all Safety, Environmental, and OSHA guidelines and procedures to understand and utilize personal protective equipment.
- Perform supervisor duties as directed.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of control systems.
- Interpretation of basic electrical and P&ID drawings.
- Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
- Will be required to work shift work, call-outs, nights, and weekends as necessary.
- Assist in the development of technical skills of other team members.
- Be able to write, plan, and execute daily work orders/PMs.
- Ability to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as apply creative solutions to unique instrumentation and electrical problems is desirable.
- Must be able to work from blueprints.
- Must be skilled in the use of hand and power driven tools.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must have excellent organizational skills.
- Define the boundaries in order to clear equipment safely.
- Possess thorough knowledge of all major systems, equipment, and operating parameters.
- Develop procedures and reports.
- Assume responsibility for co-workers and plant operations.
- Perform control / auxiliary operator duties.
- Thorough knowledge of basic P&IDs and basic electrical one-line drawings.
- Complete other tasks as required by the Plant Manager or designated alternate.
- Dependable, reliable and predictable attendance is required.
- Must maintain a valid, in-state driver’s license at all times.
Cost Control:
Cost control is an important aspect of every job and the Combustion Turbine Technician is responsible for evaluating problems, recommending cost effective repair methods, and improvising when necessary. Reliability and efficiency must also be considered when making repairs, and the goal is to optimize cost, efficiency, reliability, and safety.
Instrumentation/Electrical Component:
- Function individually or as team leader / lead person for a team / group of maintenance personnel.
- Maintain, repair and calibrate plant electrical and electronic equipment associated with system valves, pumps, motors, switchgear, air compressors, generators, turbines, igniters, condensers, etc.
- Proficient Equipment Operator:
Forklift
Snorklelift
Manlift
Bandsaw
Drill press
Conduit tools
- Perform maintenance on all plant motors.
- Connect/disconnect all motors after properly cleared and grounded.
- Megger and bridge motors and analyze data.
- Calibrate and connect/disconnect field devices (thermocouples, pressure switches, transmitters, etc.).
- General shop practices using shop equipment, hand tools, power tools, electrical test equipment, and hoists.
- Be responsible for the condition, safe keeping and security of assigned tooling and materials.
- Be competent in the use of control system terminals and personal computers.
- Be proficient in Safety, Environmental, and OSHA guidelines.
- Competent knowledge of plant logic system.
- Establish technical specifications and procedures on assigned equipment.
- Read and interpret design documents, drawings, sketches, work orders and / or plans.
- Assist in the control of quality and productivity ensuring that work procedures, schedules, and specifications are followed.
- Initiate, check and complete work orders using MP2 automated maintenance management software. Ensure quality of work, work order follow-up, material usage, and sign-offs are completed as required.
- Maintains good housekeeping standards on a continual basis.
Mechanical Component:
