The Simulation & Training Solutions (STS) Defense Systems Engineering department is looking for a Technical Project Manager (TPM) /Project Engineer (PE) to lead a team of engineers in the design and development of new and exciting training systems. As the single point of contact for engineering on a development project, the PE will be responsible for technical leadership and project management within the guidelines set by the Value Stream Leader VSL)/Program Manager (PM) and Customer. This position includes bid and pursuit support and provides the opportunity to serve as the lead on pursuit activities.
The TPM/PE role is intended for one of our DoD programs. The role will include leading the development and execution of modifications to the baseline system. Apply now to be a part of this exciting opportunity!
This position is located onsite at our Binghamton, NY location. May be eligible for relocation.
What you will do:
Engineering Information Data hub (Single point of contact for VSL/PM, Ops, Configuration Management (CM), Security, etc) for assigned program
Multi-disciplinary engineering team leader for systems, software, electrical, mechanical, and quality
Customer’s Technical Interface
Responsible to guide engineering development in accordance with the Collins Management Systems, Engineering Process, requirements, budget, and schedule
Develops and monitors project plans, schedules, and budgets for small to mid-size projects and suggests appropriate adjustments to ensure adherence to the established project plan, schedule, and budget.
Works with engineering group managers to ensure that the project is appropriately staffed.
Identifies resource issues and works with group management to resolve, escalating to department management if needed.
Supports Technical Risk and Opportunity Management and mitigation tasks.
Pursues cost saving opportunities and risk mitigation to maximize project profitability.
Records and documents change in scope, and any other incidents that impact the scope of work or schedule to ensure smooth project operations.
Conducts meetings, consolidates, and presents plans and progress reports relating to business aspects of the project(s).
Identifies and reacts to project problems and recommends solutions, such as reallocating resources or changing contractual specifications.
Leads engineering bid efforts
Provides input to leadership reviews (Gate Review) material, Project Management Reviews, and EAC Reviews
This position may require occasional travel both domestically and internationally.
Education and experience:
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Skills you must have:
Must have a Hardware systems development background and the ability to show understanding of typical assembly Product Architecture, Bill of Materials, Part Selection, Life Cycle Cost, etc.
Must have experience with performing bid and pursuit efforts.
Must be able to show experience in leading a team.
Must have the ability to create and leverage powerful networks to get the job done.
Skills we value:
Well organized and able to communicate effectively with engineering team, leadership, and customers.
Experience with developing Hardware Device solutions
Experience designing for in Additive Manufacturing and Model Based Definition approach to documentation would be a plus.
Familiarity with systems engineering processes and requirements and design capture tools including ALM, JIRA, and Subversion is desirable.
Engineering Development experience would be preferred.
Experience in supporting pursuit activities, including bids and proposals is also desired.
