This position primarily involves a hybrid work schedule - working remotely: Monday & Friday / on site: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The business project manager role will have an opportunity to engage in a variety of projects across the Institutional Life (IL) business, including investments, products, service, and technology. As the project manager you will provide critical business process management to the most important key initiatives being worked on across the business. Your success in the role will require working independently, great communication skills, strong organizational talents, and a collaborative approach.
This role is located in our corporate headquarters in New York City and will require infrequent travel to our location in Leawood, Kansas. Our dynamic, high-performing team leverages the strength of a Fortune 100 company while having the nimbleness of a smaller operation. IL is a fully contained operation where this role will provide project management across all disciplines of the business. IL offers sophisticated life insurance products in the Bank Owned Life Insurance (BOLI), Corporate Owned Life Insurance (COLI), and Corporate Sponsored markets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and managing end-to-end project plans for multiple strategic initiatives using Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Accountable for partnering with the business lead to ensure successful project delivery, on time and on budget.
- Organizing status update meetings and holding workstreams accountable to meeting agreed upon deliverables.
- Analyzing and assisting in documenting cost/benefit of potential options related to projects.
- Establishing timelines, milestones, defining implementation dates, and managing dependencies with regular communication to business leaders and project team members ensuring requirements can be met.
- Managing resource requirements to ensure project deliverables are met.
- Responsible for growth of the practice area including best practices, through retrospectives and a focus on continuous improvement of project management practices within the IL team.
- Managing reasonable documentation and communication based on the initiative and leadership need on that specific initiative, ranging from daily stand-ups, weekly 4-blockers, or weekly leadership meetings with PowerPoint decks.
- Anticipating, identifying, and mitigating project risks and impediments, while designing and documenting solutions and removing roadblocks.
Leadership:
- Independent, self-starter, with strong organizational skills that can communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to manage/lead those who do not report to the role through inspiration and influence.
- Strong negotiation, organization, time management, and Project Management skills are required as there will be multiple projects assigned at any given time.
- Effectively engage and communicate with diverse stakeholders to ensure clear understanding of project objectives, expectations, and timelines, fostering collaborative relationships through the project lifecycle.
Communication Skills:
- Adeptly communicates, persuades, and negotiates with others to build consensus across the teams.
- Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and presentation skills.
- Ability to lead teams in a results-oriented and collaborative manner.
- Skilled in communicating clearly and concisely and with the right level of detail for the intended audience.
- Prepare communications regarding project direction, decisions, issues, risks, and status for management.
Functional Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Requires in-depth expertise in Project Management competencies
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification highly preferred
- Knowledge of Scaled Agile Frameworks (SAFe) is a plus
- Knowledge and understanding of the life insurance industry a plus
- Six Sigma is a plus
- Demonstrated understanding of a project life cycle- including discovery and delivery
