Your Role

We are seeking a pioneering and inspiring Group Lead of Advanced Biostatistical Sciences to lead a team of individuals who support various areas within biostatistics, including Statistical Data Sciences (AI/ML), Automation and Statistical technologies, Biomarker & non-clinical statistics. The Group Lead of Advanced Biostatistical Sciences will play a key role in partnering with members of Biostatistics, other Clinical Measurement Sciences functions, other R&D functions, and the wider Corporate Data Science community, reporting into the Global Head of Biostatistics. As a member of the Biostatistics Leadership Team, this individual will have the ability to influence decision making and critical advancement of integrated evidence planning and quantitative, evidence-based decision making.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and delivery of statistical methodology, biostatistical subject matter expertise, statistical/machine learning, and statistical tools/applications development to support R&D programs across the pharmaceutical company
  • Collaborate within Biostatistics and with other Clinical Measurement Sciences functions to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality statistical support to R&D programs
  • Collaborate with other R&D functions to ensure that advanced statistical expertise is appropriately integrated into R&D decision-making
  • Build and grow the Advanced Biostatistics Sciences team, including recruiting, developing, and retaining top talent
  • Maintain knowledge of state-of-the-art statistical methodologies, tools, and technologies, and integrate them into the work of the tea
  • Lead the development of new statistical methodologies, tools, and technologies, and drive their dissemination and adoption across the organization
  • Collaborate with the wider Corporate Data Science community to ensure efficient data utilization and integration into the work of the team
  • Provide input into the planning of R&D programs to ensure appropriate statistical support and utilization of advanced statistical expertise
  • Ensure the team works in compliance with regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures
  • Manage resources and build a culture of collaboration, innovation, excellence, and continuous learning
  • Collaborate with external vendors, consultants, and regulatory agencies as needed

 

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, or related field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in biostatistics, with demonstrated experience in statistical methodology, biostatistical subject matter expertise, statistical/machine learning, or statistical tools/applications development

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to apply statistical skills to clinical research and development
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly present technical information to a variety of stakeholders and senior leaders
  • Proficiency in SAS and/or R software and experience working with large, complex data sets
  • Experience leading and developing teams in a fast-paced, matrixed, and collaborative environment, with a demonstrated ability in managing stakeholders within a broader matrix and building strong collaborations with partner functions and experts
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for clinical studies, including ICH guidelines and FDA and EMA regulations
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to influence peers and senior leaders
  • Strong commitment to quality, teamwork, and continuous learning and development
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to respond to time-critical needs with agility
  • Other areas that similar teams in pharmaceutical Biostatistical functions may focus on include: clinical trial design, adaptive designs and Bayesian methods, modeling and simulation, real-world evidence
