We are looking for a dynamic, hands on Technical Manager who thrives on new challenges and is excited about staying close to the code. In this role you will be leading a team that builds modern web applications that perform at scale using best of breed technologies. The ideal candidate must work well in a dynamic, collaborative environment. You will work closely with your peers in cross functional teams and be the champion for the team’s technical roadmap and architecture.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide architectural, technical, and project team leadership for the team
  • Technical lead and adviser for Engineering Automation projects
  • Work across the PG engineering team’s architects to ensure collaboration on designs and architectures that meet current and future needs of the system
  • Produce high-quality, scalable, secure, performant, serviceable, and functionally tested software at lightning speed to meet schedule commitments 
  • Provide technical leadership to your team and collaborate with others across the organization to drive efficiency and velocity 
  • Help grow leaders and skills within the organization through mentorship, code review feedback, design review feedback, and engagement in team scrums 
  • Help define technical product strategies that drive innovation into the Sugar product 
  • Collaborate with product management, other engineering teams, QA, and Support to plan, architect, design, develop, test, and maintain product features 
  • Follow Sugar development lifecycle processes and provide ideas for improvement as appropriate 
  • Continually look for ways to improve our code base and evaluate new technologies. Proactively identify and solve issues in your areas 
  • Work with customers as appropriate to represent Sugar’s engineering organization

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Computer Science or some other technology discipline OR 5+ years leading software engineers in a SaaS environment
  • Excellent time management skills with an emphasis on working with remote resources around the world and across many different time zones
  • Significant experience with cloud and SaaS solution development
  • Long term vision that promotes short term deliverables in quarterly release format based on factual, data driven scope definitions
  • Strength in planning, scheduling, executing, and finalizing delivery on regular sprint cycles based on individual capacity and team velocity
  • Ability to identify and coordinate delivery of dependencies across multiple teams and products
  • Deep understanding of Kubernetes and DevOps
  • Understanding of asynchronous technologies
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and across differing types of audiences
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills with differing consumers, stakeholders, team members, partners, and customers
  • Prior experience with scrum-based software development tools such as Git, Jira, and Confluence
  • Experience with Ruby, scripting, and other cloud languages
  • Experience with object-oriented design, development, RESTful APIs, testing methodologies, server-side programming languages, web services, and relational databases
  • Prior experience with a large-scale enterprise product and/or distributed Saa
