Acutronic is looking for a Mechanical Designer I to join our team in Pittsburgh, PA. In this role, you will function as part of a mechanical design team to produce elegant, easily assembled, cost-effective Acutronic products and services while maintaining the project schedule. Our ideal candidate will have an Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Design and experience using 3D modeling. Acutronic’s Simulation & Test Division is the global market leader in the development, design, and manufacture of Inertial Guidance Test Systems and Hardware-In-the-Loop motion simulators. These high-precision motion simulators are used in the aerospace, defense, automotive, and consumer electronics industries to test and calibrate inertial sensors (e.g., gyroscopes and accelerometers that measure movement); Inertial Navigation Systems; stabilized electro-optics; Electronic Stability Control systems; and the in-flight engagement scenarios of missiles. Systems include single- and multi-axis rate tables, flight motion simulators, and target motion simulators. The Division’s U.S.–based team also develops and refurbishes stabilized or gimbaled platforms utilized in applications such as tracking mounts, gun turrets, and directed-energy systems.

Mechanical Designer I

Your Roles/Responsibilities:

  • Design simple electro-mechanical systems and components utilizing 3D modeling
  • Generate manufacturing and assembly drawings using computer-aided drafting (CAD) software
    • Work with drawings created in 3rd and 1st angle projection
  • Create 3D model parts from supplier data sheets and drawings when one is not available
  • Generate parts lists in ERP system
  • Communicate with other disciplines to determine additional design requirements
  • Generate 2D or 3D images from CAD for design review documents
  • Create engineering document releases for purchasing and manufacturing per Acutronic procedures:
    • Process engineering release document
    • Gather all documentation required to support release
    • Maintain engineering documents in physical or digital project binders
  • Revise manufacturing and assembly drawings after release per Acutronic procedures
    • Process concise Engineering Change Order (ECO) documents
    • Mark-up (redline) drawings for manufacturing
    • Process all marked-up changes to drawings and 3D models
    • Finalize ECO documentation
  • Work with project management and supervisors to maintain budget and schedule
  • All essential functions and duties performed with direct supervision

Your Profile/Qualifications/Skills:

  • Associates Degree in Mechanical Design from an accredited college or university, preferred
  • Experience using 3D modeling
  • A combination of education and skills may be considered

Position Type/Physical Demands:
  • This position is primarily performed by sitting. The incumbent needs to occasionally move about inside the office and/or manufacturing area to access office equipment and company products. Ability to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, sit and stand needed in order to perform job duties.
  • This position is primarily performed in an office environment. While performing the duties of this job the incumbent must follow strict adherence to established safety standards.
  • Must be able to travel to customer sites on occasion, domestically
