General Description
The Director of Pediatric Clinical Support Services (DOPCSS) will lead the clinical support staff in delivering excellent care to patients and offering quality support to the medical staff. The DOPCSS is expected to ensure that each member of the clinical support team is properly credentialed, trained and performing their duties consistent with the established standards of care as well as state and federal law. The DOPCSS will participate in policy development and quality improvement activities necessary to improve the level of care and service for every patient. The DOPCSS will provide leadership and support in the development of all clinical support staff and provide direct oversight and supervision of the clinical support staff in the Department of Pediatrics.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assures implementation of CHC mission statement.
- Responsible for clinical staff implementation of CHC policies and procedures.
- Utilizes theory of shared governance and integrates point of care staff into decision-making.
- Responsible for operating within approved budget.
- Coordinates clinical staffing needs of all Pediatric practices.
- Works with providers to maintain smooth and efficient patient flow.
- Coordinates with office managers to maintain team approach to patient care within each office.
- Evaluates clinical staff operations and performance. Implements disciplinary program as needed. Maintains complete documentation of all actions.
- Evaluates staffing needs and participates in hiring new staff.
- Responsible for orienting new clinical staff either directly or by assigning appropriate clinical staff member as preceptor.
- Plans and implements in conjunction with the COO continuing education plans.
- Mentors nurse managers.
- Works with the COO to formulate clinical policies and procedures for all clinical support staff.
- Performs as member of Quality Assurance Committee.
- Participates as member of working committees as assigned by the COO.
- Responsible for maintaining vaccine program, supplying offices with appropriate vaccines and staff education as to usage.
- Establishes and maintains community relationships and programs.
- Works closely with the Pediatric Practice Manager, Director of Early Childhood Services, and Pediatric Medical Director to coordinator and improve a team approach to Pediatric Care.
- Works closely with the Director of Family Medicine Clinical support services to improve pediatric care by Family Medicine sites.

- Supervises all Pediatric clinical support staff and nurse supervisors.
Interrelationships
- Coordinates with office providers and office managers.
- Coordinates with all management staff as needed.
- Interacts with external agencies such as DHEC, VFAC, school districts.
- Coordinates office meetings and schedules as needed.
- Participates in the site’s provider meetings and/or staff meetings.
- Coordinates VFAC and other programs with Director of Family Medicine Clinical Support Services.
Workplace Description
The work environment is that of a medical practice that enforces safe OSHA compliant practice. HIPAA rules and regulations are stringently enforced and violation is grounds for dismissal. The position requires staff to work under pressure at times and with a diverse population. As a medical office exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, sharps and other conditions are common to a clinical environment. All possible safety precautions are taken to prevent adverse effects for our staff. Teamwork and good communication is essential in promoting an office environment that will provide the highest level of quality to patient care Meetings for interoffice and interorganizational communication are regularly scheduled. Ongoing educational and skill reviews occur at both the office and organizational levels.
