Position Summary:

Postdoctoral teaching position in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Fort Lewis College

Job Description:

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Teach 24 credit hours per academic year, which runs from late August to early May.
• Course assignments are expected to include General Chemistry I and II lecture and laboratory courses.
• Prepare class and evaluation materials, deliver lectures, hold office hours, grade, and respond to student queries.  
• Collaborate with other instructors teaching common courses. 
• Attend faculty meetings and contribute to college- and department-wide initiatives in the classroom. 
• Maintain knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508. 
• Produce and remediate digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards. 
• Perform other duties as assigned. 

Required Education, Specialized Skills and Experience:

• Recent PhD in Chemistry or related field from CU Boulder; PhD must have been awarded (or planned) from May 2023 through August 2025; candidates can be ABD if their planned defense date and graduation date are before August 1, 2025
• Demonstrated advanced study of chemistry adequate to provide basis for teaching aforementioned courses
• Demonstrated interest in teaching and/or mentorship of undergraduate students 
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Good organizational skills and the ability to complete tasks within strict timelines
• Familiarity and/or willingness to work with Microsoft Office 365 cloud functionalities
•  Familiarity and/or willingness to work with Canvas, our college's course management system
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships across academic units and with other offices on campus

• Experience teaching diverse populations

• Work hours are flexible but should fit within a standard work week.   Employees must be present on campus for class, tutoring and meeting times, but have flexibility for their grading and preparation.  

Compensation

The position will pay $55,000, per year, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
