As an MRO Category Management Advisor, you will join a dynamic team at the intersection of procurement and technology, where your curiosity and analytical mindset will help shape smarter sourcing decisions. The Category Manager, MRO is accountable for the effective & efficient management of suppliers across the Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) category throughout the full category management life cycle, reporting to the Senior Director, Materials & Equipment, Category Management. This role drives value creation through market engagement, supplier performance management, and innovative sourcing solutions while seeking to maximize value for Phillips 66 (P66).  This requires significant client focus, active market engagement, the development of category strategies, and the formation of innovative, fit-for-purpose solutions. Working closely with key stakeholders, this role will lead and support initiatives that enhance value delivery, ensure business continuity, and manage supplier performance to support continuous improvement.

This position can be based in our Houston, TX or Bartlesville, OK office.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the primary contact for stakeholder inquiries, issues, and escalations related to the category.
  • Establish relationships with P66 BU/site and key functional groups to facilitate collaborative planning, sourcing, contracting, and supplier management activities.
  • Provide guidance and support to site procurement teams, technical teams, and operations.
  • Promote stakeholder alignment and influence decision-making through data-driven insights and relationship-building.
  • Collaborate with other Category Managers to manage relationships with core MRO & PVF suppliers to ensure value delivery, exceptional service, and continuous improvement.
  • Optimize addressable spend through material standardization and supplier consolidation with a focus on the reduction of tail spend.
  • Develop and improve fit-for-purpose centrally managed strategies to ensure compliance with and procurement policies while promoting general interest outcomes.
  • Conduct supplier performance reviews, including corrective action planning and follow-up.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage category spend within or across BU/site and regions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry and category trends, market dynamics, and competitor strategies to make informed decisions.
  • Identify and monitor leading indicators for proactive market decisions.
  • Develop and improve fit-for-purpose centrally managed strategies to ensure compliance with and procurement policies while promoting general interest outcomes.
  • Coordinate RFx process with Strategic Sourcing, Data Analytics, Contracts Excellence, and Technical Stakeholders when sourcing across functions, regions, and applicable sub-categories. 
  • Draft, negotiate, execute, and implement legal T&Cs and commercial terms.
  • Review and analyze disparate spend data to identify trends and develop ‘Should Cost’ models to facilitate sourcing decisions and fact-based negotiations.
  • Monitor KPIs to assess the effectiveness of category management strategies, proactively identify delivery issues, and understand business needs.
  • Track and report on category KPIs, supplier performance, and cost savings initiatives.
  • Support the business in the implementation of new contracts and supplier Management of Change, ensuring effective handover and understanding of contract terms

 

What You’ll Bring – Required

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 or more years of experience in procurement in the energy industry with sourcing, negotiations, and contracting
  • Working knowledge of category management processes, procedures, practices, and techniques
  • Experience with Microsoft office, SAP, GEP, Icertis, or equivalent CLM, and other procurement technologies

 

What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or relevant discipline
  •  5 or more years of procurement experience in the energy industry with sourcing, negotiations, and contracting
  •  Knowledge of MRO & PVF supplier landscape, market dynamics, and effective, applicable category strategies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, SAP, GEP, Icertis, and other procurement technologies
