Church Pension Group (CPG) is a financial services organization that serves the Episcopal Church, located in Midtown Manhattan. CPG was founded in 1917 to provide pension benefits to eligible clergy of the Episcopal Church. Since then, its mission has expanded to include life and disability insurance, health benefits, property & casualty insurance, and publishing.

The Finance team in the Corporate Finance department is responsible for budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to provide the management team with actionable insights for decision making. The Finance team is also responsible for financial oversight related to risk, capital and liquidity.   The Business Analyst- Finance will be responsible for the compilation, analysis, reconciliation, and report preparation of diverse accounts and projects. The position evaluates existing and potential product/service markets to develop and implement plans producing recommendations and solutions for new strategies and services for The Church Pension Group.                                                                                                                                              

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Leverage business intelligence tools and create dashboard reports
  • Assist in developing financial models and analyze them to support strategic initiatives
  • Support management team and the department leads with data driven analysis
  • Perform the timely and concise compilation, analysis, reconciliation and report preparation for very diverse accounts and projects.  This includes application of analytical / technical presentation skills
  • Interpret and apply policies and procedures to ensure compliance to the applicable regulatory authorities and corporate standards, policies, and guidelines; interfacing with Corporate Accounting on a need to inform and need to know basis
  • Assist in the evaluation of all operating methods, procedures and support data, helping in the development and implementation of changes / modifications
  • Oversee and participate in special assignments, projects and taskforces assigned to the area. Provide technical guidance and assistance to others and inform the department’s management of progress and / or problems.
  • Analyze the functions and activities of an operating unit to determine ways in which performance could be enhanced by better management systems, controls, and procedures; specific business systems to meet information processing objectives.
  • Evaluates alternate solutions (customized systems, commercially available software packages, or modification to existing system) to identify the option that maximizes benefits given cost, schedule, and risk constraints.
  • Effective performance of the essential functions of this position requires regular in-person, on-site interaction with colleagues, both for purposes of relationship building and meaningful collaboration.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Superior, effective and efficient analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, SAP, state and federal laws and/or cash management, banking environments and investment application and accounting. Strong knowledge of workflows and internal accounting controls. Ability to assist in the development and execution of financial and strategic plans within corporate standards, policies and guidelines. Strong knowledge of the industry and internal business operations.
  • Strong decision-making, negotiation, business communications, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills. Strong knowledge of and ability to develop relationships with other functional areas (i.e. , legal, systems, actuarial, etc.) and external business contacts.
  • PC Skills

 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • BA/BS or ABA in a financial discipline is preferred. MBA is helpful but not required. Combination of work and experience will be considered
  • 5+ yrs of relevant financial experience required
