Job Description

Job Title: Production / Test Technician

Working Pattern: Onsite (2nd shift 2pm – 10:30pm)

Working Location: Cypress, CA

We are seeking an experienced Test Lab Leader to support and oversee metallurgical testing, metallographic analysis, and laboratory operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for leading daily lab activities, executing advanced testing processes, and ensuring accurate, timely, and complaint test results that support production and engineering needs. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in materials testing, troubleshooting, and laboratory equipment operation while also providing leadership, training, and guidance to junior technicians. This position plays a key role in driving continuous improvement, maintaining safety and quality standards, and supporting cross-functional collaboration across the organization. In this role, you will need to pass a vision test and be able to lift up to 20 lbs.

What you will be doing:

  • Perform advanced metallographic sample preparation, including mounting, grinding, and polishing
  • Conduct detailed analysis using microscopy techniques, including laser microscopy
  • Execute destructive testing using hydraulic and electromechanical test equipment
  • Operate and monitor high-temperature furnaces for material testing
  • Interpret thermocouple readings and apply knowledge of thermocouple types
  • Use precision instruments (e.g., Fluke meters) to verify temperature and system performance
  • Perform soldering and support test setup/fixture assembly
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor maintenance
  • Accurately document test results in accordance with SOPs and quality standards
  • Serve as a technical lead for lab processes, providing guidance and support to junior technicians
  • Train and onboard new team members on metallography, testing methods, and lab equipment
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance lab efficiency, safety, and data accuracy
  • Assist in developing and updating SOPs, work instructions, and best practices
  • Coordinate daily lab activities and help prioritize workload to meet production and testing deadlines
  • Act as a point of contact between engineering, quality, and production teams
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all lab and company safety standards
  • Take ownership of projects, ensuring timelines, quality, and deliverables are met

Basic Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED (General Educational Development) with 4+ years of experience in metallography, microscopy, or materials testing, OR
  • Associate degree with 3+ years of experience in metallography, microscopy, or materials testing
  • In order to be eligible for consideration, you must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident.
