Reporting to the Director of Security with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Associate Directors, provides leadership and direct management oversight of Security’s internal programs, including but not limited to department response protocols, standard operating procedures and practices along with Museum-wide safety and security programs (crisis management, risk identification, threat mitigation and response, life safety, etc.). Provides daily support for Security’s operation and staff (155+ Supervisors, Security Officers and Control Room Operators) in conjunction with the Associate Directors and other Security Managers. Regularly interacts with Security leadership, Supervisors and Officers in order to execute day-to-day functions and regularly interacts with MoMA’s frontline staff and other departments. Applies coaching, staff development, strategic planning, and emergency response experience to enhance overall departmental effectiveness, team morale, and professionalism within a multi-cultural museum environment. Applies knowledge and experience to manage all department projects, including identifying risks, inefficiencies and improvements within the process.
Responsibilities:
- Provides guidance and maintains the Museum’s cross-functional crisis management and incident response teams, including the crisis management plan, team meetings and agendas along with coordinating table top exercises to include third party vendors or consultants.
- Develops, maintains, and assists in implementing crisis management and disaster recovery strategies and solutions for the Museum, including but not limited to, readiness assessments, recovery strategy development, and response planning.
- Supports and drives the implementation of the department’s risk identification and threat mitigation programs to include assisting and supporting the Museum’s life safety program.
- Oversees the risk mitigation program at the Museum including conducting risk assessments, threat analysis, and vulnerability management. Adapts strategies to mitigate emerging threats and develops a culture of proactive threat prevention.
- Supports the implementation of security technology that assists in proactive threat identification and response through the effective deployment of security systems and platforms.
- Supports the implementation of the department’s annual plan, in conjunction with senior Security leadership, including all resources, processes, systems, and functions within the department to maintain and effectively safeguard the Museum, its employees, trustees, visitors, physical properties, and the art.
- Manages high level and cross-functional projects, thorough understanding and application of all relevant project management phases, techniques, tools and reporting (KPIs, SLAs).
- Leads end to end planning, support and execution of all project(s) within the department in partnership with the Associate Directors and Director.
- Creates and maintains a project management approach that identifies and mitigates project risk while enabling the department to continue to scale and evolve.
- Maintains open lines of communication with all department colleagues and other department heads to ensure good day–to-day situational awareness and effectiveness.
- Manages security contract vendors, with oversight of all procedural implementation, budgeting, scheduling, KPIs, and conflict resolution.
- Works collaboratively with a diverse and multicultural community.
- Coordinates and collaborates with Building Operations, Exhibitions, Membership, Visitor Engagement, Special Events, and all other MoMA departments.
- Manages MoMA’s mass notification system in collaboration with HR and IT departments.
- Frequently reviews and updates the department’s manuals, handbooks, guides, etc.
- Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.
