About the role

Overview

The Utah Farmers Market Network (UFMN) under Utah State University is seeking applicants to collect and summarize impact data for farmers markets across Utah. The UFMN is committed to identifying these impacts to strengthen the network’s role, improve understanding of farmers market impacts in Utah, and for future funding efforts. The successful applicant will be independently collecting data from multiple markets in the state (travel is funded) and communicating results to the data committee through spreadsheets and regular virtual meetings.

Responsibilities

Assist in the collection, summarization and analyzation of standardized data from farmers markets in Utah. The data will identify the economic and social impacts markets have on vendors, customers, and communities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to travel on weekends to and from Farmers Markets in Salt Lake City, Southern Utah (St. George, Cedar City, Hurricane), and Price for 1-2 days at a time depending on applicant’s location (travel paid)
  • Ability to work and communicate with a variety of public stakeholders
  • Complete at least one post-secondary course in mathematics
  • Familiarity with spreadsheet software (i.e. Excel)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in local agriculture and food distribution
  • Completed introductory-level course in statistics or have used applied statistics
  • Experience writing short (3-5 page) technical reports

The environment and physical requirements may change depending on the specific function of the work each department performs. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents may nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing).

 

Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. Additionally, indoor or outdoor work environments may include being confined or in narrow spaces for periods of time. The incumbent may also be exposed to loud noises or vibrations from equipment, and conditions that may affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. Bending, crawling, and crouching may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift, push, and/or pull objects up to 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
