As part of SCL, Cornell Dining is comprised of more than 30 on-campus eateries, including multiple all-access dining rooms, cafés, coffee shops, food courts, retail convenience stores, concessions stands, a restaurant and catering services. From crafting holiday-themed meals to chef surprises and dining room special events, the Cornell Dining team of more than 400 skilled culinarians and front-line associates, and 600 student employees work hard every day to offer a variety of fresh and healthy food from all over the world. The S06 Material Handler supports Cornell Catering’s high-volume operation by ordering, tracking, and restocking catering linens, paper goods, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages. This role helps ensure supplies, equipment, and resources are available and organized for daily catering functions and special events. Working closely with Catering leadership, the position assists with inventory control, receiving, event logistics, and operational processes to support efficient service delivery and maintain quality standards.

Likely daily tasks include:

  • Monitoring inventory levels and maintaining appropriate stock of assigned items to support daily catering operations and special events.

  • Work with the Banquets Manager of operations to maintain various storage and supply areas, trucks, and catering equipment, to ensure materials are accessible and accounted for.

  • Assisting with various event logistics by preparing, packing, and coordinating supplies and equipment for assigned catering functions.

  • Supporting overall receiving activities, including inspecting deliveries as they arrive and conducting audits to help ensure incoming orders are accurate and complete.

  • Monitoring packing, beverage preparation, and sanitation activities throughout the catering functions to help maintain high quality, safety, and operational standards.

Success in this role requires strong organizational and time-management skills, keen attention to detail, and effective communication abilities. The ideal candidate can balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining established food safety, quality, and operational standards. This position requires flexibility to adapt to changing event needs and customer requests, as well as the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and proactively prioritize tasks to support efficient catering operations.

Location and schedule assignments will be based on business needs. Position may require regular evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Daily tasks, locations and schedules may be subject to change including the potential for seasonal lay-offs.

This is position is part of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union. The current rate of pay is listed in the collective bargaining agreement here: https://hr.cornell.edu/sites/default/files/2023-04/uaw.pdf and starts at $26.64/hour.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, or equivalent such as BOCES, and four - five years of related experience.

  • Knowledge of automated computer systems/programs related to inventory, ordering or material handling.
