ROLE:
The Clinical Applications Coordinator (CAC) serves as a crucial member of the health care team by overseeing the implementation, maintenance, optimization, & ongoing support of clinical software applications and the Electronic Health Record. The CAC collaborates with healthcare professionals, IT staff, and vendors to ensure that clinical systems effectively support patient care, improve work-flow efficiency, and adhere to regulatory standards. The CAC also coordinates day-to-day support for all IT related needs of the Health Center and is responsible for facilitating communication, training, troubleshooting, and ongoing support to health center staff.
This is a licensed held position, adhering to the Kansas Nurse Practice Act.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Experience:
MINIMUM: Two years of experience in either direct Health Care or in Health Care IT (if IT only, experience must have included clinical applications). Two years of experience working with an Electronic Health Record (EHR).
PREFERRED: 5+ years of experience as noted above. Two years of experience working as a CAC for an IHS or tribally owned health entity.
Education:
MINIMUM:Bachelor's degree in medical informatics, direct patient care (clinical, nursing, or allied health), health information management (HIM) or other related health care field. Must have passed a licensing exam and hold a current LPN or RN license. Willing to obtain CPR/BLS certification within the first six months of employment.
PREFERRED: Master's Degree in medical informatics, direct patient care (clinical, nursing, or allied health), health information management (HIM) or other related health care field. RN License with additional certifications in Healthcare or IT. Current CPR/BLS Certification.
Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of the current Nurse Practice Act for the state of Kansas, medical terminology, and security requirements.
- Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR), medical software, circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and other related computer hardware.
- Knowledge of mathematics and nursing pharmacology formulas
- Proficient knowledge of guidelines, requirements, and specifics of a patient population.
- Comprehensive knowledge of managing non-compliant patients, special needs populations, and patients with significant deficits in coping skills, thereby requiring continuing professional clinical support.
- Knowledge of clerical procedures and systems such computer and general office equipment, and Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of the English language the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, grammar, and medical terminology.
