Key Responsibilities:

• Leadership & Planning: Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President  to provide strategic leadership and long-term planning for the CIR.
• Innovative Program Development: Lead efforts to create, implement, and evaluate programs aimed at enhancing outreach, retention, academic success, and leadership development for minoritized students.
• Strategic Vision: Shape the role of the CIR in supporting SDSU’s academic and public service mission through creative leadership and strategic planning.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity, Division of Academic Affairs, students, staff, and community partners to deliver impactful training, programs, and services.
• Multicultural Initiatives: Manage SDSU’s multicultural efforts, including multiracial and multiethnic initiatives, the Multicultural Learning Community, and support for other minoritized student groups.

Community Engagement:

• Representation: Act as a representative of SDSU to external community and governmental organizations.
• Resource & Support: Serve as a resource for addressing sensitive equity, crisis, and individualized issues related to multicultural students.
• Mentorship: Mentor and advise students, and provide support to other faculty and staff members on campus.
• Program Design: Collaborate with interns and student assistants to design and deliver programs that promote leadership development, equity, social equality, and access to basic needs.

Position Information

• Full-time, at-will role, offering comprehensive benefits.
• Position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
• Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
• The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The mission of SDSU’s Community Centers is to support student success through a framework that addresses equity, justice, and inclusion. Centers facilitate the learning and growth of traditionally underserved students through programs and events that educate the campus; facilitation of intergroup dialogues to address pressing issues; and advocacy with campus stakeholders to create an institutional climate that supports the students served by the Centers.
