About the role

Carnegie Mellon University is seeking applicants for a full-time Athletic Trainer that will support a nationally competitive NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics program. This individual will report to the Head Athletic Trainer and assist in the delivery of high-quality sports medicine services to student-athletes across multiple varsity sports. The role emphasizes injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and communication with medical personnel to ensure comprehensive care and performance support for student-athletes.

Core Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with all aspects of the sports medicine program

  • Provide injury prevention strategies, clinical evaluation, immediate care, and rehabilitation services for varsity student-athletes

  • Coordinate with team physicians regarding medical assessments and care plans

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical documentation

  • Provide coverage for team practices and competitions, including travel where necessary

  • Serve as a clinical preceptor for athletic training students from the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University (optional, if continuing affiliation)

  • Coordinate student-athlete medical billing and insurance documentation in collaboration with administrative support

  • Other responsibilities as assigned within the scope of athletic training

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred

  • Eligible for athletic training licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

  • 1–3 years of collegiate athletic training experience preferred

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check

  • Child Protection Clearances (Act 153)

  • Motor Vehicle Records (MVR)

  • Certified by the Board of Certification (BOC)

  • Certified in CPR/AED for Healthcare Providers

  • Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.  Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.
