The Radar, Airborne, and Space Systems Department is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I, Structural Analyst. The qualified candidate will be responsible for detailed structural analysis to support all phases of programs including development and production. The position will be onsite at our McKinney, TX location.  

Analysis tasks will span the spectrum from classical hand analyses to detailed analyses requiring the use of finite element analysis software. The analyses will cover a wide range of difficult problems, requiring solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives. The analysis tasks will include evaluating RF and EO/IR hardware designs for static and dynamic strength, fatigue, durability, stiffness, thermos-elastic behavior, and other system and sub-system level performance metrics such as field-of-view or line-of-sight.

The selected candidate will work under general guidance and will be held accountable for completing their work within the agreed upon cost and schedule. The candidate will be expected to present their work for peer reviews and external customer reviews. The selected candidate will work with the customer and engineering leadership to define testing required to validate structural analyses and to verify compliance with requirements. In addition, the selected candidate will be expected to plan and support tests, perform data reduction and engage in structural model correlation.

What You Will Do 

  • Analysis tasks spanning the spectrum from classical hand analysis to detailed analysis requiring the use of finite element analysis software.
  • Interpreting structural analysis results and proposing changes for design improvement.
  • Developing high quality analysis reports for peer reviews.
  • Presenting results to internal and external customers.
  • Planning and supporting testing, data reduction and structural model correlation.

Qualifications You Must Have 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related (STEM) field obtained prior to start..
  • Performing sizing calculations to determine scope of higher detail analysis models.
  • Performing peer reviews of analyses to validate process and results.
  • Delivering results to customers (internal and external).
  • Structural analysis using FEA software.

Experience may be obtained through on‑the‑job experience, research, coursework, or projects


Qualifications We Prefer

  • Ability to travel to government or other facilities in support of program activities, typically less than 15%
  • Proficiency with engineering workstations running Windows and Office suite.
  • Working knowledge of Abaqus FEA software.
  • Vibration and dynamics experience.
  • Programming skills in tools such as Python and Matlab.
  • Structural test experience.
