Research Data Analyst

We are excited to announce the search for a committed and strategic Research Data Analyst to support the advancement of two pioneering research groups: the Community Science and Innovation for Environmental Justice (CSI EJ) Initiative and the Johns Hopkins Environmental Health Microbiology and Immunology Laboratory (EHMIL). This role involves providing the data management, data analysis, and statistical programming needed for cutting-edge, community-driven research and contributing data analytics to support field and laboratory initiatives that address environmental justice, advance scientific understanding, and foster educational growth.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

• Work as a key member of a research study project team with primary responsibility for oversight of collection, organization, management and reporting of research data.
• Make important design and data collection methodology recommendations. Have primary responsibility for data collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting.
• Develop data collection and analysis methodology, including defining in detail data requirements, data sources and proper data collection procedures, e.g., computer programs, appropriate data fields, databases.
• Clean incoming data files, integrate data files into the data management system, update summary files, process data requests from scientific investigators ensure data quality through the execution of computer programs, development of protocol, and other quality assurance.
• Design and create study specific databases.
• Develop and implement data collection quality assurance procedures to ensure validity and reliability of study results.
• Create/build and maintain databases, records and files.
• Oversee and collaborate in development of study tools including data collection forms, eligibility checklists, preprinted orders, etc.
• Collect data using appropriate methods (e.g., interviews, surveys, forms, questionnaires, experiments, gathering data from available sources).
• Supervise or oversee the work of others engaged in data collection.
• Perform data analysis and interpretation, utilize knowledge of statistics and quantitative analysis. Present research data.
• Generate reports, charts, tables and create presentations.
• Serve as resource for research staff and field data coordinators regarding data issues: collection, entry, quality, transfer.
• Contribute to writing sections of manuscripts/publications.
• Present data at scientific and public meetings.
• Maintain detailed knowledge of assigned protocols. Works on research studies which require a high level knowledge, coordination, and data abstraction.
• Assist the principal investigator in defining information and plans required to accomplish goals of studies. Design and create data collection forms as needed.
• Design database in REDCap, ACCESS, R, SAS, ArcGIS, Stata or other database management system. Implement and maintain database. Perform queries and generate forms. Produce progress reports using pre-coded programs.
• Manage databases used for research projects. Ensure integrity, accuracy and security of data.
• Responsible for data quality control based on protocol requirements and research study objectives.
• Focus on database management and basic programming for analysis of variables in studies.
• Detect problems in research instruments, data collection, and data entry.
• Make suggestions or provide solutions to problems related to data management and statistical analysis.
• Work closely with clinicians, epidemiologists, and research collaborators to process and analyze data, help in the preparation of manuscripts for publication, and help with preparation of presentations.
• Aid with conducting sophisticated computer programming and statistical modeling, using computing languages such as python, C and S+, statistical software such as R, Matlab, Stata, and / or SAS, and spatial data analysis software such as ArcGIS.
• Help develop grant proposals, project reports, and manuscripts for publication, such as providing assistance in study design, sample size, and study power estimation, and data analysis plan.

• Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
• Three years related experience.
• Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: Min $47,500 - Max $83,300 Annually ($65,400 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
