Director of Career-Technical Education/Counselor

Northwest Mississippi Community College seeks a Director of Career-Technical Education/Counselor to lead Career-Technical Education efforts at The Concourse, Everest, and Oxford. This position will also lead Cosmetology programs for the district and provide counseling support for select Career-Technical Education programs. The position is a 12-month professional staff position reporting to the Associate VP for Workforce Solutions and Career Tech Education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Relevant bachelor's degree or above from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of five (5) years relevant work experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Relevant Master’s Degree.
- Experience as a counselor in Higher Education
- Work experience in Career-Technical Education
- Leadership experience in Higher Education.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES (including but not limited to):
- Management duties and instructional oversight for all CTE programs at The Concourse, Everest, and Oxford.
- Management duties and instructional oversight for cosmetology programs at all locations.
- Assist with procurement of equipment for all CTE programs at The Concourse, Everest, and Oxford.
- Serve as the point of contact for all activities at The Concourse
- Schedule rooms at The Concourse
- Schedule tours of The Concourse
- CTE Counselor responsibilities for The Concourse, Everest, and Oxford CTE programs
- Manage applicants for CTE programs at The Concourse, Everest, and Oxford.
- Recruitment and outreach responsibilities for CTE for Panola, Lafayette, Quitman, Yalobusha, Calhoun, and Tallahatchie counties.
- Assist the College’s Recruiting Office in the recruiting of career and technical students including dissemination of CTE information at secondary schools and appropriate community events, coordinate CTE tours, and maintain positive working relationships with area high school counselors.
- Coordinate CTE student registration, enrollment, and retention of career and technical students for The Concourse, Everest, and Oxford.
- Assists CTE efforts in the College’s Orientation program.
- Coordinate and provide academic and career services to ensure effective retention of CTE students for Everest, Oxford, and The Concourse.
- Coordinate with college wide Career and Technical faculty in the delivery of soft skills training for all students.
- Coordinate CTE competitions and activities at The Concourse, Everest, and Oxford.
- Participate and cooperate as a team member with Workforce Solutions and Career-Technical Education staff and faculty in division activities.
- Contribute to the overall mission of the College by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Associate VP for Workforce Solutions and Career Tech Education
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong analytical, organizational, oral, and written communication, judgment/problem-solving and human relations skills are essential.
- Must be able to work without close supervision.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook email and calendar management
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize and communicate clearly and effectively in a timely manner
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a team
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to do the following:
- Communicate with others in person, phone, and via email
- Sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms
- Stand, walk, stoop, or kneel
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
- Must have ability to walk, climb stairs, stand, bend, and squat
