A computational research scientist position is available immediately in the Do Lab. The Do lab is in the Charles Bronfman Institute for Personalized Medicine, Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, New York.
Dr. Do’s lab focuses on determining the genetic, biological and clinical basis of human diseases. The group pursues these interests by utilizing approaches from statistical genetics, population genetics, human genetics, genetic epidemiology, scientific computing and machine learning.
The candidate will benefit from collaborations with neighboring labs in the Charles Bronfman Institute for Personalized Medicine, the Department of Genetics and Genomic Science, the Department of Medicine, and the Icahn School of Medicine.

The term for this position is for 1 year with possibility of an extension depending on successful progress and available funding.
Advisor: You will be advised by Professor of Genetics and Genomic Sciences, Dr. Ron Do. The candidate will have an appointment as a Research Scientist of the IPM in the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Roles and responsibilities: The roles and responsibilities will be assigned by Dr. Ron Do. The candidate will be expected to lead and assist on projects and bioinformatics analyses in human genetics, and data science within the Do Lab. Furthermore, you will have opportunities to collaborate with neighboring labs in the Charles Bronfman Institute for Personalized Medicine and in and around Mount Sinai.

Start date: The start date will be August 1, 2024 is contingent on completing Human Resources processing.
1.Conducts research to develop methodologies, instrumentation and procedures for medical application, analyzing data and presenting findings.
2. Assists in the design and conduct of complex clinical research studies requiring the determination and evaluation of alternative methods, computational modeling, diagnosis and treatment.
3. Participates in studies to investigate human or animal disease, preventive methods, and treatments for disease.
4. Follows strict safety procedures when handling materials to avoid contamination.
5. May mentor students and less experienced research technicians.
6. May confer with health departments, industry personnel, physicians, and others to develop health safety standards and public health improvement programs.
7. Develops treatments and designs research tools and techniques.
8. Explores subject area and defines scope and selection of problems for investigation through conceptually related studies.
9. Develops hypotheses with senior colleagues to be tested and methodology for evaluating results.
10. Examines the results of clinical trials and adjusts the dosage levels to reduce negative side effects or to induce better results.
11. Develops new proposals for research and obtain support for new and/ or continuing research activities.
12. Participates in decision-making with potential impact on extensive scientific research activities.
13. Other duties as assigned.
1. Candidates should have a Ph.D., or equivalent in Human Genetics, Computational Biology, Computional Genetics, Bioinformatics, Statistical Genetics or a related discipline.
2. Candidates should have proficiency in programming (e.g. Perl or Python) and statistical computing (e.g. R).
3. Candidates should have a track record of scientific productivity and/or leadership.
