Job Description

The Senior IT Security Analyst uses their knowledge of current security methods and standards to gather operational information and assess and analyst tools, systems, and processes in defense of applications, systems, and networks and collaborate with Infrastructure and business teams. The Senior IT Security Analyst is a lead support role for the IT Security team. They will provide mentorship, administrative service and support for monitoring systems, security breaches, providing investigative analysis and supporting incident response plans, security awareness, risk assessments, document review, vendor risk, vulnerability management and threat hunting. They will also engage in the support of other security focused tools and services and other duties as assigned. In addition, they may be asked to assist with risk assessments, forensics analysis, data collection, user training and other security related tasks.

 

As a Senior Security Engineer, you will help strengthen WGU’s security posture across applications, networks, and cloud environments. You will design and operate Zero Trust–aligned solutions, respond to security incidents, and partner closely with engineering and architecture teams to protect sensitive data and critical services for our learners and employees. Your work will directly support WGU’s commitment to innovation and secure, modern technology experiences.

What you’ll do

  • Provide expertise in information security, specializing in Zero Trust Architecture, cloud, and network engineering.

  • Mentor and supervise less experienced security engineers and analysts.

  • Collaborate with architects, risk professionals, and other specialists to build and integrate security tools and procedures.

  • Occasionally participate in penetration testing, incident handling, digital forensics, continuous monitoring, and intrusion detection/prevention.

  • Implement tools, processes, and communications supporting security initiatives.

  • Develop and maintain documentation for security systems and procedures.

  • Evaluate, select, test, and implement security-focused products and services.

  • Lead and participate in projects addressing security risks across technical domains.

  • Operate security tools and processes, ensuring consistent execution of established practices.

  • Investigate and correct unusual security configurations and implementations.

  • Continuously improve security practices and collaborate on new practices.

  • Efficiently process service request tickets.

What you’ll bring

  • CISSP or equivalent knowledge and experience in information security.

  • 5 or more years of hands-on experience in Information Security, Security Engineering, Cloud Security Engineering, or Network Security Engineering.

  • Practical experience with security infrastructure tooling including Zero Trust Architecture

  • Strong background in securing and administering network devices and operating systems, including configuration hardening and access control.
