Position Title: McKinney - Vento and Homeless Program Specialist Department: Federal Programs
Supervisor: McKinney-Vento Homeless and Foster Care Liaison
Term of Employment: 12 months (Position is grant funded and currently approved for one year. Funding and grant extensions reviewed yearly.)
Salary Classification: Classified Hourly, Level 10
Job Summary: The McKinney-Vento and Homeless Program Specialist supports the district's Homeless and Foster Liaison to provide complex administrative support to programs and personnel aligned to the McKinney-Vento Homeless Act; communicates information to staff, students, and the public; provides complete and accurate records; and provides information and direction regarding the district's Title I-A Homeless Set-Aside funding.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Assists with preparation, development, monitoring and maintaining accurate budget workbook for Title I-A Homeless Set-Aside funding with up-to-date balances for department.
- Serves as the secondary point of contact for Best Interest Determination (BID) meetings for foster students.
- Understands district of origin and district of residency under the ESSA and the McKinney-Vento Act.
- Supports homeless students and families by completing and submitting internal transportation requests.
- Coordinates with parents and Peoria unified employees for transportation pick up/drop of times.
- Greets visitors, answers telephone, directs calls, takes messages and/or provides general information to callers and visitors.
- Receives, date stamps and distributes mail, packages, bulletins, and flyers.
- Compiles, maintains, updates, monitors, tracks, and researches a variety of files, records, and databases.
- Maintains homeless supply inventory; prepares requisitions to order supplies.
- Coordinates with families, schools, and donor organizations to support the clothing and toiletry needs of identified homeless students.
- Collaborates with District Liaison and Administration Staff to improve, problem-solve and correct Homeless procedures and incidents.
- Maintains and updates policy and procedural manuals.
- Prepares agendas, meeting minutes, contracts, and formal documents.
- Edits and proofreads staff written reports, documents, or memoranda for grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances, and codes and PUSD policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the principles of customer service methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of the principles of confidential files, records, and database management.
- Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
- Skill in reading, interpreting, understanding, and applying relevant Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances, and codes and PUSD policies and procedures.
- Skill in verbal and written communications, business English, grammar, and punctuation.
- Skill in maintaining office areas and equipment in a clean professional manner.
- Skill in utilizing problem solving and customer service techniques to direct, inform or resolve issues for visitors and staff.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district.
- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED, AND two (2) years of relevant receptionist, clerical, customer service, office support or closely related experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
