Lyft is seeking a sharp, dynamic, and self-motivated attorney to join the Product & Commercial Legal team. As Product & Commercial Counsel for Lyft Business, you’ll partner with and provide legal guidance to departments across the organization on initiatives that influence Lyft Business and our business-to-business rideshare products, as well as be responsible for business-to-business commercial contracts and strategy for Lyft Healthcare. The legal issues you’ll encounter are cutting edge, revolutionary and always evolving, so it will be up to you to continuously assess and advise using a creative and pragmatic approach. The successful candidate will be skilled at building strong relationships, working in the unknown while balancing legal and business risks, and comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
- Learn Lyft’s overall rideshare business, how Lyft’s business-to-business rideshare products work, and the legal and regulatory schemes in which Lyft operates to serve as primary legal advisor for Lyft Business product teams, supporting them on projects from design to launch on new features, products, services, and programs, and to develop and drive comprehensive, long-term legal strategies for Lyft Business and Lyft Healthcare that balance risk and business objectives
- Spot and analyze issues, including as legal reviewer for product copy and marketing materials, related to consumer protection laws, privacy laws and regulations, employment laws, commercial and contractual issues, healthcare laws and regulations, and other legal requirements
- Identify legal and business risks and gaps and develop innovative solutions to mitigate risk and advance business objectives for Lyft Business and Lyft Healthcare
- Draft, review, negotiate, and interpret Business Associate Agreements, information security agreements, Medicaid provider agreements, and a variety of enterprise contracts involving complex partnerships, healthcare non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT), technology platforms, and APIs
- Conduct legal research on federal and state government healthcare program laws, regulations, policies, and requirements
- Coordinate advice and collaborate with cross-functional business and legal stakeholders, including product, marketing, engineering, healthcare, and others on legal and business issues to help ensure compliance with laws, including healthcare (e.g., NEMT, anti-kickback, and HIPAA), transportation network companies, consumer protection, marketing, and privacy
- Prioritize workload to set goals and meet deadlines in a fluctuating and sometimes ambiguous business environment
- Collaborate with legal team and business team members to improve processes and ensure business demands are satisfied
- Assist other teams with projects on an as-needed basis
Experience:
- Membership in a state bar with good standing
- 5+ years of legal experience, with a preference for a combination of law firm (at least 2+ years) and in-house legal department experience, including experience counseling on product matters at a tech company
- Experience handling healthcare commercial enterprise contracts, complex commercial transactions, Medicaid provider agreements, group purchasing organization agreements, customer and user facing terms of service, and Business Associate Agreements
- Knowledge of healthcare laws and regulations in subject matters, including Medicaid NEMT, anti-kickback, and HIPAA, as well as privacy laws
- Knowledge of various legal practice areas, including privacy, intellectual property, software as a service, marketing, and consumer protection
- Excellent issue-spotting skills, problem-solving capabilities, judgment, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills
- Keen ability to collaborate, build trust, educate, and foster connections between legal and business colleagues
- Willing and eager to take on new areas of law and to think creatively to apply traditional laws and regulations to Lyft’s technology platform and transportation network company business and, in particular, Lyft Healthcare
