Position Overview:
The Administrative and Communications Specialist is a critical position to the success and long-term strategy in the goal of San Diego for Every Child (SDec) to cut the experience of child poverty across the San Diego County region. Focusing on both Pillar 1 and Pillar 2 of SDec’s work—Advocacy and Civic Engagement, and Collaboration and Collective Impact—the Administrative and Communications Specialist will serve as the administrative backbone for Children First Collective San Diego, as well as draft and release the majority of SDec’s external communications.
The majority of this work entails serving as the administrative backbone of the local childcare advocacy group, Children First Collective. Within this administrative role, the Specialist will draft and send agendas, take copious notes, draft out advocacy calls to action, provide all meeting follow-up, and may with support, lead weekly virtual meetings. Anticipating administrative tasks, taking initiative, and having passion and drive for the work in this role will be imperative for a successful fit.
The secondary responsibility of this position is coordinating and driving forward SDec’s external communications. Being able to develop a keen sense of SDec’s image and tone, along with an aptitude for understanding what other content and resources SDec should be elevating and promoting, will be an important component of this work. The communication platforms this position focuses on include but are not limited to social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn) and Constant Contact. This position may also be part of the brainstorming and visioning for how to more effectively reach more San Diegans.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to use your creativity, communication, and interpersonal skills, in part of a broader effort to catalyze meaningful change across San Diego County and positively impact the lives of children. This position reports directly to the Director of San Diego for Every Child and will work closely with other JFS staff as well as staff from other local agencies. This role can be done remotely and will require flexibility, as both SDec and CFC operate with fluid work structures.
Responsibilities:
- Drafts agendas, takes notes, and sends all meetings follow-up for Children First Collective, including Working Group meetings, Town Halls, and Policy Circles
- Draft e-blasts and newsletters in Constant Contact
- Organizes advocacy actions on behalf of both San Diego for Every Child and Children First Collective
- Coordinates social media content, which includes capturing, drafting, and posting across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and others as deemed appropriate
- Represents San Diego for Every Child and Children First Collective in the community
- Other administrative duties as necessary
Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:
- Self-motivated, accountable, and able to keep focused, even while working remotely
- Organized and able to track tasks, provide follow-up, and input on reports
- Creatively inclined and able to capture abstract concepts in words or design
- Adept at online communications and strong computer skills
- Takes initiative and requires minimal direction to anticipate workflow
- Collaborative and effective in a team environment, but also with the ability to work independently
