Pediatric Ortho Tech – Non Certified

Location: Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt – Nashville, TN

Department: Pediatric Orthopaedics Outpatient/Ambulatory Clinic

Schedule: 4x10 or 5x8 hour shifts | 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM

About the Role

Join our close-knit Pediatric Orthopaedics team as an Ortho Tech – Non Certified, supporting outpatient and surgical care for children with musculoskeletal conditions. This hands-on role involves applying casts and splints, providing wound care, and assisting in both clinic and operating room settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply and remove casts, splints, and immobilization devices

  • Assist orthopaedic surgeons and residents during procedures

  • Educate patients and families on cast/splint care

  • Manage inventory and distribute supplies

  • Perform suture and staple removals

  • Travel to Murfreesboro OR and clinic, occasionally to the Hendersonville clinic

  • Support plastics and ortho teams in OR and inpatient settings as needed

Technical Skills

  • Orthopaedics: Basic understanding and exposure

  • Cast Application & Removal: Novice-level proficiency

  • Inventory Management: Ability to manage stock and reconcile balances

  • Customer Service: Exceptional communication and patient-centered care

Work Environment

  • Based at main Nashville campus with travel to Murfreesboro and Hendersonville

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Previous pediatric care experience preferred

  • Orthopaedics experience preferred

  • Strong interest in a long-term career in pediatric healthcare and hands-on clinical support

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists orthopaedic surgeons and residents with preventing or correcting disorders of the locomotor structures of the body.

  • Monitors cast room area and equipment.

  • Instructs patients/families on cast/splint care.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

  • Orthopaedics (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience, training, direct exposure, or past experience working with Orthopaedics.

  • Cast Application & Removal (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate cast application and removal in practical applications of moderate difficulty.

  • Inventory Management (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate Inventory Management skills in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Demon
