Director, Legal – Global Partner Development and Relations
San Mateo, CA (Hybrid) - will require coming onsite two times per week*
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE or PlayStation) seeks a strategic, business-oriented attorney and leader to serve as Director, Legal, supporting our Global Partner Development and Relations (GPDR) and Global New Ventures & Business Development (GNVBD) teams.
In this global role, you will lead a high-performing legal team—comprised of six professionals across the U.S. and U.K.—supporting a wide range of commercial and strategic legal matters involving the development, publication, and marketing of third-party games and media applications, as well as global competitive gaming initiatives.

What You'll be Doing
- Lead a global team of transactional attorneys and paralegals supporting the GPDR and GNVBD organizations.
- Provide strategic legal guidance and practical support to senior leadership, including the SVP of GPDR, VPs, Senior Directors, and their teams.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal clients and cross-functional stakeholders across business, legal, and corporate functions.
- Oversee, draft, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including: - Development and publishing agreements - License and co-marketing agreements - Technology integration and middleware contracts - Vendor service agreements
- Support legal needs of SIE’s PlayStation Plus content acquisition efforts.
- Provide ongoing legal counsel for SIE’s global technology partnerships and e-sports initiatives, including support for relevant subsidiaries.
- Review and clear third-party advertising and marketing materials featuring PlayStation branding.
- Partner with other subject matter experts within Legal to deliver comprehensive legal solutions.
- Create and deliver legal training, policies, and best practices to clients and team members.
- Help shape template agreements, including complex click-through terms used by game developers.
- Stay current on industry trends, relevant laws, and SIE’s evolving business and technology landscape.
What We're Looking for:
- 15+ years of relevant legal experience, including 3–4 years of in-house experience at a gaming, technology, or entertainment company.
- JD or LLM from an accredited law school; admitted to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. California Bar membership preferred (or eligibility for California Registered In-House Counsel status).
- Deep experience in negotiating and drafting commercial agreements.
- Strong understanding of intellectual property law, particularly copyrights and trademarks.
- Experience advising on e-sports or competitive gaming is a plus.
- Demonstrated people management skills with a collaborative leadership style.
- Proven ability to influence and advise senior executives.
- Strategic thinker with a business-friendly mindset and practical approach to risk.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Passion for gaming, media, and technology industries.
- Knowledge of the video game ecosystem, including game economies and virtual currencies, is desirable.
