The Director of Digital Products is responsible for the strategy, maturity, and performance of Orbital Engineering’s enterprise digital platform—OI—a fully integrated ecosystem supporting internal operations and enabling future commercialization as a client-facing SaaS product. This is a fully remote position within the United States.
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this role ensures the OI platform meets enterprise-class security, stability, and scalability requirements, and leads the development of the product roadmap that aligns with Orbital’s operational processes, digital transformation strategy, and long-term market opportunities.
The Director partners closely with Software development, AI, GIS, and Field Technology teams to build a unified platform architecture while leading a product management function responsible for user experience, integration quality, and value realization. This role requires deep technical fluency, enterprise system experience, and a strong background in SaaS product ownership and digital platform strategy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Position duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Platform Strategy & Leadership
- Define and execute the multi-year strategic roadmap for OI as both an internal enterprise platform and a commercial SaaS product.
- Establish OI as a foundation for enterprise workflows, data pipelines, field technology, and AI-enabled decision support.
- Ensure that OI scales effectively as a client-facing product, including licensing, multi-tenant architecture considerations, and support models.
Security, Stability & Compliance
- Ensure the platform meets enterprise-level availability, reliability, and performance standards, suitable for mission-critical operations.
- Partner with Information Security & Compliance to align OI with SOC 2, NIST, PII protection, and cybersecurity requirements.
- Implement platform governance, versioning, change control, and release management processes to maintain a stable and secure production environment.
- Oversee incident response processes and platform monitoring standards.
SaaS Product Management
- Lead the vision, positioning, and development of OI’s capabilities as a commercial SaaS offering for industrial and utility clients.
- Guide pricing, packaging, licensing models, and client onboarding experience in collaboration with the CTO, Business Development, and Marketing.
- Establish metrics for product-market fit, client adoption, and customer satisfaction.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Integration
- Work closely with directors and managers across Software Development, AI, GIS, and Field Technology to ensure seamless integration, common data models, and consistent user experience.
- Translate complex business and operational requirements into platform capabilities and technical designs.
- Manage cross-functional dependencies to deliver a cohesive platform across modules.
Product Management Leadership
- Lead and mentor a growing team of Product Owners, Analysts, and UX/UI contributors, establishing standard product management practices.
- Oversee backlog prioritization, sprint planning, and release execution in coordination with technical teams.
- Maintain deep understanding of user workflows to ensure features deliver measurable operational or commercial value.
Performance & Value Measurement
- Develop KPIs for platform adoption, uptime, stability, security posture, and feature utilization.
- Deliver quarterly updates to leadership summarizing platform performance, roadmap progress, and strategic outcomes.
- Continuously evaluate new technologies, trends, and client needs to evolve the platform.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline (Master’s preferred).
