Responsible for overseeing the vision, strategic direction, and day-to-day operations of the Aircraft Acquisitions, Aircraft Configuration Management, and Engineering Services organization.  Directs groups within area of responsibility to support and achieve the goals of the company and department as a whole.  Plays a key role in successful collaboration with all groups within and outside the Integrated Operations organization.

  • Mentors team of Senior Managers, team leaders, and staff on career growth and enrichment.
  • Establishes and maintains influential relationship with aircraft manufacturers regarding new aircraft.
  • Directs use of OpEx Lean/Six Sigma tools and methods to drive change.
  • Establishes and encourages a culture of collaboration, caring, technical excellence, and professionalism that supports the goals of the company, providing an atmosphere where individuals and team contributions are encouraged and recognized.
  • Ensures that training programs and standards are established and administered for each group within area of responsibility.
  • Interfaces with persons or groups both inside and outside of Integrated Operations to promote cooperation in achieving departmental and division goals.
  • Supports revenue and operational objectives.
  • Oversees groups who:
    • Manage the overall execution of the aircraft delivery and dispositions processes
    • Lead cross-functional teams of specialists, engineers, and program managers responsible for creating and maintaining the digital aircraft maintenance and configuration data for the airline operation.
    • Develop and oversee the recruitment and hiring of the next generation of Engineering and Quality personnel through the Cooperative Education (COOP) program.
    • Facilitate support of various groups within Engineering and Quality by providing shared full-time and/or contract resources to lead or support special projects.
    • Oversee the overall quality and execution of the aircraft Into-Plane Fueling and Winter Operations programs.
  • Ensures policies and procedures meet the needs of American Airlines and comply with Federal Aviation Regulations.
  • Assists in the development of capital, expense and headcount budgets for Engineering and monitors / controls associated costs.

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience/training
  • 7 years of leadership experience, overseeing large workgroups with cross-functional teams, as well as managing and coaching teams
  • 10 years of airline industry experience
  • Action oriented, results-driven leader with a natural aptitude for engaging employees in multiple workgroups
  • Experience dealing effectively with Regulators
  • Excellent project planning and organizational skills, with ability to effectively and simultaneously manage multiple large projects within tight deadlines and maintain attention to detail
  • Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain the highest regard for safety
  • Ability to travel extensively
