Senior Data Engineer

CIQ is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, optimize, and scale cloud-based data platforms that power business-critical applications and analytics. You will be responsible for building robust data pipelines, optimizing database performance, and ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable data operations across AWS environments.

This is a high-impact role where you'll work closely with engineering teams to support production systems, improve data accessibility, and implement automation that enables data-driven decision making at scale.

In this role, you'll get to:

Build Scalable Data Pipelines

• Design and implement ETL pipelines for batch and real-time data processing.

• Develop scalable data workflows in AWS cloud environments.

• Build and maintain data ingestion frameworks supporting structured and semi-structured datasets.

• Improve data quality, reliability, and governance through automated validation and monitoring.

• Implement data transformation processes that support analytics and operational applications.

Optimize Database Performance

• Review, analyze, and optimize complex SQL queries to improve application and reporting performance.

• Design indexing, partitioning, and caching strategies for high-volume workloads.

• Monitor database health and proactively identify performance bottlenecks.

• Assist development teams in designing efficient data access patterns.

• Analyze execution plans and implement performance tuning best practices.

Manage Cloud Data Infrastructure

• Administer and maintain AWS database services, including Redshift, Aurora, SQL Server, and related platforms.

• Manage database schema changes across development, staging, and production environments.

• Support CI/CD processes for database deployments and infrastructure updates.

• Ensure database security, availability, backup, and disaster recovery standards are maintained.

• Implement automation to streamline operational database management.

Support Production Operations

• Collaborate closely with Software Engineers to support data-intensive applications.

• Investigate and resolve database-related incidents and production issues.

• Participate in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Develop monitoring and alerting solutions to ensure system reliability.

• Maintain documentation and operational best practices for data systems.

Drive AI-Powered Data Engineering

• Leverage AI-assisted performance tuning tools to analyze query execution and system behavior.

• Identify optimization opportunities through automated performance analysis.

• Support adoption of intelligent automation within data engineering workflows.

• Explore predictive analytics and advanced optimization techniques to improve platform efficiency.

Who you are and what you'll need for this position:

• 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Database Administration, or ETL development.

• Strong expertise in SQL performance tuning, query optimization, and database architecture.

• Hands-on experience with AWS database technologies including Redshift, Aurora, SQL Server, DynamoDB, and related services.
