Reliability Technician - Calibration

Position Overview

The Guthrie Reliability Team is seeking a dynamic and experienced Reliability Technician to join their team. The Reliability Technician is responsible for verifying and calibrating instruments that ensure product quality, site conformance with regulations, and process equipment reliability by performing routine calibrations on the site’s instrumentation.

 

We are looking for a collaborative team player with the initiative to support and drive reliability and accuracy of the site’s instruments in alignment with the facilities WCM® excellence. A successful candidate will be self-directed and will have the ability to effectively communicate with team members at all levels.

 

The Reliability Technician will report to the Reliability Leader. The Reliability Technician will work a typical Monday-Friday, dayshift schedule. Some weekends and holiday’s may be required due to need of fulfilling customer requirements and scheduled outages.

 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities:

• Drive planned, calibration execution on the site’s instrumentation per documented procedures and processes to ensure equipment reliability and that all records are maintained in the site’s CMMS for historical purposes and to maintain conformance of the site’s quality and environmental requirements.
• Identifying and resolving the sites urgent issues related to calibrated instrumentation equipment.
• Facilitating contracted parties that come onsite to perform periodic calibrations, by ensuring all of the Novelis policies and procedures are followed.
• Obtaining instrument specific information such as manufacturer, model, and serial numbers, to assist in creating and maintaining equipment data in the site CMMS.
• Maintain and conduct inventory of the site’s calibration standards used for performing calibrations.
• Management of calibrating consumable materials in terms of stock levels, ensuring that what is needed is available to perform calibrations during the scheduled time frame.
• Assist in supporting during site audits in terms of conformance of calibration procedures and processes and obtaining historical information from the site’s CMMS.
• Collaborating with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, and other identified stakeholders to promote calibrated equipment accuracy and support improvement efforts for reliability work processes and practices.
• Promoting a safety conscious culture and willingness to speak to legitimate safety, health, or environmental issues and concerns.
• Provide technical expertise to develop cost effective calibration strategies to achieve best in class availability and reliability of the plant’s instrumentation equipment.
• Support the review and optimization of calibration maintenance plans to improve the PM frequency, indicators, and calibration methods.
• The creation and maintaining of spare parts in instrumentation BOM’s through utilization of the site’s CMMS and MRO software systems.
• Assist in the coordination of having faulty, repairable instruments prepared for the Storeroom team to send out for repair, per documented procedures and processes.

Qualifications:

 

• High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of a two-year technical degree/diploma, specializing in process control and/or instrumentation.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a calibration or process control specific role; within an IATF 16949 accredited manufacturing facility.
• Extensive knowledge of SAP or other CMMS for documenting historical data from calibration routes.
• Knowledge of Reliability Centered Maintenance concepts and a clear understanding of the responsibility and accountability associated with the Reliability Calibration Technician role.

• Knowledge of IATF 16949:2016 and ISO 9001:2015 accreditations.

• Must possess knowledge of calibrating pressure, flow, temperature and analyzing transmitters to include their associated sensors and elements.

• Must understand the technology associated with load cells and other weighing application instrumentation.
• Must have previous experience with PLC or DCS control systems, in terms of being able to differentiate between sinking/sourcing voltage and loop/field powered control loops and being able to verify proper scaling.
• Must possess strong troubleshooting skills and be able to systematically work through complex issues commonly found within the instrumentation field.
• Knowledgeable with x-ray technology utilized for thickness and coating applications.
• Familiarity with basic calibration practices and typical calibrating tools, standards, and meters.
