Summary




At the LSP Criminal Investigation Division, our mission is to enforce all State criminal laws and statutes. The Division is responsible for the detection of criminal activity, and for the apprehension of those committing crimes.  The Division is comprised of Detectives and Narcotics Investigators.

We’re looking for a proven investigator to join our Criminal Investigations Division—a professional, pro-active team, working not only to detect, but deter criminal activity.  Our Division conducts investigations related to law enforcement agency uses of force resulting in serious bodily injury or death, public corruption, interstate and/or dangerous fugitives, multi-jurisdictional felonies and violent crimes, and criminal enterprises trafficking controlled substances.

Examples of duties

Two years of experience in law enforcement, investigatory work or military intelligence work; OR

Twelve hours in law enforcement or a criminal justice field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

An applicant will be disqualified if he or she has been convicted of a felony or if there are any indictments or bills of information pending against him or her in which felony charges are included; or if he or she has been convicted within the past three years of hit and run or driving while intoxicated.

Job Duties:

As a Criminal Investigator, you will:

  • Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations related to violations of state law; provide investigative and supportive assistance to federal, local and state law enforcement agencies; and work with federal agents to enforce federal statutes.
  • Investigations may include death investigations, financial crimes, homicides, in-custody deaths, missing persons, multi-level white collar crimes, public corruption, violent crimes, narcotic-related offenses and illicit activities related to the distribution of narcotics by individuals/drug-trafficking organizations.
  • Related duties may include developing sources of information; management of confidential informants; interview and interrogation; surveillance; preparation and execution of search/seizure/arrest warrants; collection/documentation of evidence; securing crime scenes; dismantling of criminal enterprises; preparation of criminal investigative reports; asset seizure and investigative expense tasks/tracking.
  • Coordinate with federal, local and state prosecutors to prepare cases pending trial; attend all administrative and criminal proceedings to present evidence and give accurate and truthful testimony of matters under judicial review.
  • Attend ongoing professional/specialized training, seminars and conferences related to criminal investigations; stay abreast of emerging crime trends, strategies and safety concerns; attend meetings with other LSP sections; maintain equipment per departmental policies; and provide investigative support for other LSP Divisions and Sections.
