Mitiga is a spinoff of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, which hosts MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe.
Mitiga's mission is firmly rooted in employing cutting-edge science and technology to mitigate the multifaceted risks posed by climate-driven perils. Requirements
Who you are
You're a seasoned Climate Expert who has honed their skills through a PhD. Your degree is in climate science, climate modelling, or related field with 6+ years of experience.
- You have experience in the private sector, specifically in the field of climate services and/or insurance and/or financial sectors.
- You know how to develop and deliver tailored climate solutions to diverse stakeholders.
- You have extensive experience in climate modelling and using forecast data for sub-seasonal and seasonal to decadal timescales, as well for climate projections.
- You´re skilled in big data processing and handling model uncertainties and biases.
- You have a strong track record of collaboration with atmospheric and earth scientists in the application of statistical analyses to evaluate the impact of climate on atmospheric hazards, including the development of techniques for the detection of extreme events in climate forecasts and climate projections.
- Knowledge of statistical downscaling for the definition of regional distribution and time evolution of small-scale features given large-scale coarse resolution analyses, forecasts, or simulations is considered a strong asset.
- Experience in implementing Artificial Intelligence approaches is a plus.
- You have very good knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems and advanced skills in programming languages such as Python and R.

Your impact
Quantify the impact of extreme events:You will collaborate with atmospheric scientists, numerical weather prediction (NWP), statistical downscaling, data science and machine learning (ML) specialists. You will complement their expertise and apply your climate modelling, climate data processing expertise to quantify extreme events in the hazard and risk setting on various time scales.
Contribute to the development of Mitiga´s climate scores and services you will actively contribute to translating the scientific findings and methods arising from the study of climate processes and their impact on extreme events into both high-level climate scores and catastrophe model hazard modules. You will work on other climate services tailored to diverse stakeholders, geographical areas and use cases. This includes the development of qualitative and quantitative indicators that capture the different dimensions of climate change and climate variability and, in turn, their impact on the appropriate peril-specific risk factors for each use case.
Provide the building blocks for climate-conditioning catastrophe models. Use your process knowledge to develop climate conditioned hazard modules for cat-models in collaboration with our wider modelling team. In doing so, you use your experience to explicitly take the uncertainty propagation through the catastrophe modelling chain into account. Furthermore, you will be the go-to person within Mitiga to explain and communicate these uncertainties.
