Job Overview
We are seeking a Lead CAD Designer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and modifying detailed technical drawings and designs used in the construction of products and facilities. This role will lead the implementation of Windchill (PLM) and CREO (3D CAD) standards and processes. This role requires close collaboration with engineers, construction teams, application engineering, 3rd party engineering and drafting, and quality control. The Lead CAD Designer will manage independent contractors in the design and development of plant and component designs and deliverables.
This position will be based at our office in Houston, TX (Energy Corridor - 11700 Katy Freeway). Net Power offers a hybrid work schedule, 3 days in office and 2 days remote.
Key Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
- Manage company CAD standards, standard part libraries, and drafting and design processes and procedures.
- Monitor and manage 3rd party engineering 2D/3D deliverables quality through tools such as Modelcheck and import and export of configure controlled models and drawings.
- Support development of plant digital twin, modeling standards, and plans for future digital data integrations.
- Develop and prepare detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings, models, and schematics based on product or project specifications.
- Interpret technical documentation, such as blueprints and schematics, to produce accurate designs for construction.
- Modify and update existing designs to incorporate design changes and improve assembly, construction, and maintenance.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and feasible for product management.
- Creation of company standard templates for 3D models, 2D drawings, standardized reports, tables, and parameters.
- Develop metadata standards for BIM requirements for construction, operations, and maintenance of industrial facilities.
- Perform calculations and verify dimensions to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Maintain organized records of all drawings, revisions, and design documentation through Windchill (PLM), and other collaboration tools.
- Troubleshoot design issues and recommend solutions to improve product quality and reduce costs.
Essential Functions:
- Create 3D CAD models for products to meet customer requirements and specifications.
- Create product assembly drawings, 2D part drawings from 3D models.
- Develop parts lists and bills of materials in the company’s PLM system. Develop EBOM, ABOM, PBOM, CBOM as needed.
- Participate in design reviews and digital mockup reviews of 3rd party engineering contracts.
- Provide ongoing support to Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), and Nonconformance reports (NCRs) using standard procedures and CMII processes.
- Conversion of CAD files from various CAD tools into CREO. Interoperability of models and Model Based Definition requirements.
- Review and evaluate designs for clashes, design consistency, and adherence to company standards.
- Transmit, receive, interrogate and approve all CAD models for use in the NPWR design.
Education and Required Experience:
- Associate’s degree in related STEM or technical field plus 5 years’ experience or bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field plus 3 years’ experience.
- Proficiency with CREO 3D CAD software and familiarity with Windchill, Teamcenter, or ENOVA PLM systems.
- Knowledge of design and engineering needs in support of industrial facility construction.
- Experience in product development and management of variants, features and options.
- Experience in product development and manufacturing or construction environments.
- Understanding of how to accurately represent designs in technical drawings and familiarity with ASME Y14.100 and other Y.14.x standards as well as ISA 5.1 standards.
