Job Summary
In support of the CSULB Library this position will patrol the CSULB Library on foot to protect campus community and visitors from such hazards as fire, theft, vandalism, trespassing and other hazards. Assist in the enforcement of campus rules and regulations. Notifies the CSULB PD of incidents requiring police service. needs assistance with enforcing campus and library regulations inside the library.
Key Responsibilities
- Security Services - Patrol the CSULB Library on foot to protect campus community and visitors from such hazards as fire, theft, vandalism, trespassing and other hazards. Assist in the enforcement of campus rules and regulations. Notifies the CSULB PD of incidents requiring police service. Write incident reports to document activities that do not require investigation by CSULB police. The position will track, log, and maintain records are needed to identify overall program needs. Check, open and secure campus facilities, and coordinate. Responsibilities include evaluating alarm systems, test Library alarm systems and testing panic buttons. Interacts with campus community to identify potential threats and problems. Assesses this information to formulate a solution plan.
- Public Safety Support - Provide support and assistance to CSULB Police. Keeps lines of communication open between Library staff and UPD. Meets as needed with Support Services Commander, CSULB Library staff, and participate in CSULB Library staff meetings. Coordinates efforts to educate the campus community on methods to deter and control criminal activity and to facilitate the development of a safe environment. Participates in emergency response training. In actual emergencies, act as trained and directed to do so.
- Campus Community Support - Department liaison with students, staff, and faculty, and groups, to facilitate exchanges of information, advertising of crime prevention, education services, and dissemination of relevant incident information to the campus community. Assist in the physical logistics for CSULB Library special events and emergencies; staff the main entrance as directed by Library staff. Provide general information and assistance to campus community members. Provide escorts for students, faculty, and staff members as needed. Will represent the CSULB Police in campus events and provide excellent customer service to support the needs of the campus community.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to learn how to use and operate the applicable public safety related equipment and systems are essential. Ability to learn and put into use applicable procedures and regulations related to campus security, public safety, and CSULB Library. Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of individuals including the campus community, public, and law enforcement personnel. Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and confidentiality.
Ability to detect and respond appropriately to potential hazardous or crime situations. Ability to observe and recall details and incidents. Ability to act and resolve parking and traffic problems. Ability to write standard incident reports in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
Equivalent to a high school diploma and six months of related experience required.

- Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.
Licenses / Certificates
•CA Driver's License required.
Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.
