Job Summary:
Maintenance controllers are the liaison for all Pilots, Flight Engineers, and Mechanics for any maintenance or equipment needed for an aircraft. Maintenance controllers will be able to step into multiple rolls when needed including provide full service to an Aircraft. Maintenance Controllers are responsible to and are trained by the Manager of Maintenance Control. In the absence of Maintenance Controllers, the Manager of Maintenance Control or the designee shall perform this function. Should it be deemed necessary, the DOM may also contract this function to another 121 Air Carrier, as long as the other Air Carriers people are trained in KII procedures and manuals. This will not relieve the Manager of Maintenance Control of the responsibility for Maintenance Control. The requirements and responsibilities for a contract Maintenance Controller will be the same as for an actual Maintenance Controller from KC2. The purpose of Maintenance Control is to provide trained, qualified, and authorized personnel in a central location to manage the offsite maintenance and scheduling of maintenance for Kalitta Charters II aircraft in accordance with Kalitta Charters II manuals. The Maintenance Control facility is located at Kalitta Charters II main base at Willow Run Airport, Ypsilanti, Ml. Maintenance Controllers should have a minimum of 2 years diversified experience in maintenance of large, fixed wing aircraft, a valid A&P license, systems training and a minimum 1-year experience on specific company aircraft or as deemed by the Director of Maintenance. This determination by the Director of Maintenance will be based on work experience and annotated with a letter inserted into the employees’ training file.
Functions/Responsibilities
- Maintain a continuous liaison with all outstation maintenance facilities, ensuring timely reporting of current total aircraft times, and notable information as it pertains to inspections, time changes, work requests, etc.
- Provides technical assistance to KC2 maintenance employees and contract agencies.
- Authorizes, assigns and maintains a daily log of MEL, CDL and carry over controlled items. Reviews these on a daily basis to ensure parts (if needed) or technical assistance will be available in order to make repairs in a reliable and timely fashion. Ensure all troubleshooting is being logged into the logbook and transferred to KC2 FORM M-17A.
- De-brief layover flight crews or ride on mechanic at the end of the day flying.
- Coordinates with Flight Operations, the movement of aircraft system wide as it pertains to maintenance scheduling activities, maintenance actions and required down times. Project spares requirements for all Routable components and appliances and follow up on applicable delivery dates.
- Approve minor work at non-maintenance stations.
- Coordinates with the Manager of Maintenance Control, all aspects of maintenance performed on K2 aircraft on a daily basis via verbal reports, electronic means (i.e. turnovers or Deferred Maintenance Item reports), or any means requested of the Director of Maintenance.
- Schedule the accomplishment of required maintenance activities to comply with the company’s requirements. This includes complying with DMI’s, CDL’s, C/O’s, repair orders and “A” check. Also ensuring all parts necessary will meet up with A/C in a timely manner to perform said maintenance.
- T rack approved Advisory Notices for compliance within given period.
- Assist in preparing paperwork packages for inspections or engine changes as needed.
- Has authority to make final decision from line maintenance perspective regarding the course of action required to facilitate repair. The Director of Maintenance and / or the Chief Inspector may override this decision.
- During absences (vacation, illness, etc.) the Manager of Maintenance Control delegates an alternate administrator of equal qualification with the authority and responsibility of this position.
- Collect, analyze and provide data required per KC2 CAS procedures.
- In the absence of a trained and qualified KC2 Maintenance Controller, the Manager of
- Maintenance Control will assume the function of Maintenance Controller.
- Ensure timely completion of Repair Order FORM M-34 with outstation and maintenance base personnel.
- Obtain all supporting data for M-34’s issued for forecasted maintenance inspections.
- All Log Pages and associated paperwork will be scanned / faxed / E-mailed to KYIP and reviewed by K2 maintenance control for accuracy and completeness. Maintenance entry’s, sign-offs and M-23 Tags, this is to include Maintenance Manual Reference’s, MEL
- References and GMM References, and all associated and accountability documentation prior to next flight. (Example, M-34’s, Check Cards, M-7’s, M-40’s etc.
