Job Description
We’re re-launching our Civil Engineering Department in Seattle and seeking a Senior Discipline Civil Engineer to help build it from the ground up. This is a high-impact role for a proven technical leader who’s excited to shape a team, elevate client relationships, and grow a practice—with clear leadership responsibility and potential pathway to management/ownership (subject to company policies) in a well-established multi-discipline office.

As a Senior Discipline Civil Engineer at Coffman Engineers’ Seattle Office, you will be part of a collaborative, creative, and high-performing team that believes in making a difference for our clients and our communities. Key responsibilities will include:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, designers, and technical staff
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance work culture
- Manage civil engineering projects from inception to completion, maintaining quality, schedule, and budget adherence
- Provide technical oversight and quality control for designs, reports, and deliverables
- Serve as a subject matter expert in civil engineering design, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices
- Identify and pursue business opportunities
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients, municipalities, and key stakeholders
- Lead proposal development, contract negotiations, and project scope discussions
- Monitor project profitability and implement process improvements as needed

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration required
- Registration in Washington (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
- Registration in Oregon preferred.
- Minimum of 12 years of progressive civil engineering site development experience including the following:
- Preparing fee and qualifications-based proposals
- Managing multiple, concurrent projects
- Leading design team efforts
- Successfully managing project budgets and schedules
- Interfacing with a multi-discipline design team
- Mentoring junior staff
- Client management
- Technical experience with hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, technical studies, mapping documents, preparation and processing of civil construction documents, and earthwork calculations
- Stormwater experience in Western Washington strongly preferred
- Excellent communication, client service, and team leadership skills.
- Ability to foster long term client relationships
- Business development interest and the ability to help win and grow work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coordinating with a multi-discipline design team is strongly preferred
- Experience collaborating with local architectural/engineering community is strongly preferred
- Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Microsoft office and other software
- Project experience in Industrial, Federal, and Alternative Energy / Energy Storage markets strongly preferred
- Experience designing public utilities
- Experience serving as a prime consultant
- Experience with zoning entitlements and permit procurement
- Ability to work with counterparts in other Coffman offices to share workload when required
- Experience with managing day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients utilizing experience and technology to meet expectations
- Experience attending and participating in local professional organizations
